Opera House ConcertOpera House Concert

Bungendore students hit all the right notes in Opera House concert...

Bungendore Public School’s recorder club has performed in the Jacaranda Concert of the Festival of Instrumental

Music at the Opera House, an extravaganza that puts more than 1000 public school students on stage every night

for four nights.

aThis was BPS's 10th year of participation in the festival and next year the school hopes to take students in both the

recorder and strings ensembles. Music teacher, Mrs Margie Lawson said she was exceptionally proud of all the stu-

dents. “They were exemplary ambassadors for our school and community,” she said. “They applied themselves

with diligence and determination to learn the repertoire and played with confidence.”

Year 4 student Anton Lettfuss said: "It was fun and relaxing and a great opportunity to play with so many friends

and other kids. It was very cool seeing all the schools coming together to play from so far away. I was inspired to

see the strings kids all play together too. I’d like to play with the strings one year soon. It was a great experience

seeing other children who had played all over the world with their bands and I’d like to do that when I’m older.”

Each year, public school students from across NSW join together to celebrate musical excellence in a series of four

concerts in the Festival of Instrumental Music for Combined Recorder and Combined String Ensembles.

Year 5 student Meg Pailthorpe said: "I thought it was an amazing experience especially for young kids. The music

from all the other schools was inspiring. My favourite piece was Different Worlds because of the soloist singing and

how we got to sing with her for a little bit. I loved having a special weekend with mum in Sydney, too.”

Bungendore Public School principal Narelle Lloyd said the students involved in this year’s performance had been

rehearsing for the concert since the end of last year.

“They played beautifully. They were joined by strings, percussion, brass and a soloist singer during the night,” Mrs

Lloyd said.

Stage 3 heats of Bungendore's Got Talent

have been a resounding success this year

with over 20 acts ranging from dancing and

singing to instrumental performances.

The contest took place in the school hall last

Friday and was attended by parents, staff

and students of Bungendore Public School.

The show, sponsored by Bungendore Chiro-

practic, is an annual event where partici-

pants compete to have the chance to win a

$25 gift voucher that can be spent at the

school canteen.

This year's finalists are Miles Bray on the key-

board, Chloe Stevenson tap dancing and

Chloe Stevenson and Ella Hamson perform-

ing a dancing and singing routine to A Mil-

lion Dreams. Among the other amazing acts

were Tambah Gowland playing an original

composition on guitar, Isabella Carroll and

There are many people who are helping behind

the scenes too, with more than 20 stage han-

dlers assisting with curtains, music and more.

Mr Kyle Brothers has proven to be an entertain-

ing master of ceremonies again this year.

But there is one other person who has been in-

tegral to the show and that is Mrs Sam Bower-

ing, who is the main organiser of this year's

event and a tower of strength and encourage-

ment for the performers.

This Thursday and Friday the school will be treat-

ed again, this time with acts provided by Stage

2 first and then Stage 1 and Kindergarten.
