THURSDAY 4 SEPTEMBER 2014, WEEK 8 TERM 3 2014
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Father’s Day Breakfast
Don’t forget tomorrow is our Father’s Day breakfast. It starts at 8am on the lawn between the office and the
staffroom. Please bring the tickets you bought for your egg and bacon rolls. The Breakfast has been well supported
by our families and we are really looking forward to this opportunity to celebrate Dads. We wish all fathers a
fantastic and relaxing day on Sunday.
Premier’s Spelling Bee
Last week we held ‘spell offs’ to choose the students who will represent Bungendore Public School at the Regional
Final to be held on the 10th September at Sunshine Bay. Congratulations to Cameron and Christina who will
represent our Year 3 and 4 students, and Tom and Michelle who will represent our Year 5 and 6 students. We wish
them all the best.
Permission to Publish and Update of Parent Contact lists
These two forms were sent home last week. We are still waiting for a significant number of families to return these.
Please check the parent contact list and return both it and the permission to publish list.
Le Tres Bon Excursion
Year 2 students visited the local Le Tres Bon Restaurant last week and had the opportunity to experience what it is
like in a working kitchen. The students thoroughly enjoyed their visit.
‘Last week everyone in Year 2 visited Bungendore's French restaurant, Le Tres Bon. We enjoyed tasting the
chocolate, smelling a vanilla bean and a truffle (not so much!). We liked learning about what happens in the kitchen
with Chef Christophe and doing a role play in the restaurant with Josephine. It has given us a good idea of what it
would be like to work in a restaurant. One day some of us might train to be a master chef or manage a restaurant.
It was lots and lots of fun and we look forward to eating French food one day soon!’

Book Week winners
Mrs Donaldson announced the winners of our “Guess the Teacher “and the “Lego construction” competitions today.
There are more details on this in our on-line newsletter along with photos of the winning Lego models.
Congratulations to all our winners.
K-2 Concert
The K-2 concert is on next Thursday evening commencing at 6pm. There is a tremendous amount of excitement
among the students and it promises to be an amazing night. All students are asked to have their costumes at school
by Friday so that final preparations can be made for our dress rehearsal on Tuesday. Teachers have sent home
notes about preparations and arrival times for Thursday evening but please contact your child’s teacher if you have
any queries. We are asking families for a gold coin donation, on Thursday evening, which will be used for school
resources.
Jump Rope for Heart
As you walk through the playground you find students keenly practicing their skipping skills. From some of our
younger students working on mastering skipping to our older students working on multiple rope skills and complex
patterns, everyone is having fun and getting their heart rate pumping. The Jump Rope for Heart event will be held
on Friday 19th September.
CWA Winners
Yesterday, the winners of the 2014 CWA poster and colouring competitions attended a celebratory luncheon with
Miss O’Connell at the CWA rooms. The students really enjoyed being able to see their artwork on display and we
were all very jealous of the fantastic luncheon they were provided with. Well done Georgia, Sarah, Jackson,
Mikayla, Alyssa, Ben and Lainie
NAPLAN results
Families of students in Year 3 and 5 who sat for the NAPLAN assessment earlier in the year will receive their child’s
results tomorrow. If you have any questions or concerns about these results please make an appointment to see
your child’s teacher.
Musicorp Permission
Students who attend lessons with Musicorp received a permission note this week, to attend lessons outside of
school grounds at the School of Arts building. It is important that these permission slips be returned so that
students can participate in their music lessons.
Mobile Phones
We would like to remind families about the appropriate student use of mobile phones at school. While we
understand that families may wish their child to have a mobile phone for use after school, mobile phones are not to
be taken out of bags during school hours. The school can not be responsible for the security of a student’s mobile
phone. If a student feels unwell during the day or has a dispute or problem with their friends the staff are always
available to assist them. Students do not need to ring home.
Evacuation
On Monday we held a successful whole school evacuation practice. It is important that the students regularly
practice evacuations so that things run smoothly if we should be faced with an emergency situation.
Kindergarten 2015 Orientation
Last Thursday we held the first of our Kindergarten Orientation sessions for 2015 Kindergarten students. The
‘Readiness for School meeting’ was well attended by families. A special thank you to Kids Zone childcare centre
for hosting this event and The Bungendore Preschool for providing child care so that parents could attend.
Kinder zoo visit
Our Kindergarten students had a marvellous excursion to the zoo on Tuesday. After the disappointment of
postponing the excursion last week, there were a few nervous students when the day turned overcast. Luckily they
only experienced a slight shower when the students were inside the undercover aquarium. Very tired but excited
students returned to school with one of their favourite things being the bus trip. I have heard that some
Kindergarten students have asked their families for a new pet with lions and bears being the most popular.
We will have photographs of this excursion in next week’s newsletter.
Have a great week
