All who follow Jesus, all around the world! Yes, we’re the church together!” In our God’s Ultimate Game Plan sermon series on faith and football we have been reminded that God’s plan is that the church be God’s representative in the world. That’s right. The church is God’s team who is executing the game plan of our coach. We the people who are the church are the visible representation of God in our “world”. We represent God in our community, our workplaces, our schools and our neighborhoods. WOW! What an honor; and what a responsibility. The last verse of that same hymn says, “At Pentecost some people received the Holy Spirit and told the Good News through the world to all who would hear it.” We, like those first disciples in the early church, have received the Holy Spirit’s empowerment to go forth and tell the Good News. 2014 OCTOBER Issue 9

The first verse of the hymn We Are the Church states, “The church is not a building, the church is not a steeple, the church is not a resting place, the church is a people” and is followed with the refrain, ”I am the church, you are the church, we are the church together! All who follow Jesus, all around the world! Yes, we’re the church together!”

In our God’s Ultimate Game Plan sermon series on faith and football we have been reminded that God’s plan is that the church be God’s representative in the world. That’s right.

Who will you share God’s plan of salvation and faith with this week?

When you carry the Bible, Satan gets a headache....

When you open it, he collapses.....

When he sees you reading it, he faints.....

When he sees that you are living what you read, he flees.....

And when you are about to share this message....

He will try and discourage you.

I just defeated him!!!

Any other takers?

News from the Pews Thought for the month:

Get Right Up or Get Left Behind!

UNIQUE MINISTRY It's an amazing time for "Unique". Channel 6 visited us at this month's meeting and filmed the group while they packed and socialized. It will be aired in two weeks.

October will be a busy month for the group. They will have a booth at Hanover County Sheriff's Fall Fellowship Festival on Saturday, Oct 18th. Our members will be handing out flyers about the group and how to help and donate. They will also be helping Hanover ARC out by coloring their posters for the upcoming Pumpkin Chunk-A-Thon on Saturday, Oct. 25th and manning a booth selling sweet goods.

So far, for this year they have repackaged over 1000 lbs. of food for local food banks and 300 personal needs bags. This is only possible by your generous donations.

Thank you all for your continuous support.

W.H.E.A.T. Our help both with financial donations and especially with the following food pantry items are needed badly: pasta (any type) and spaghetti sauce. We have done an excellent job in maintaining the supply of these items needed to meet their monthly needs for distribution. Thanks to all for your generosity. Keep it coming!

Our West Hanover Wood Ministry article will be short during Dick Lear's absence. The West Hanover Wood Ministry has been working up at the Lake Anna area for the last 3 Wednesday's. We cleaned the wood from the property and we also received a donation from the same family. That was a double bonus. Our many thanks to them.

Please keep in your prayers David Luck as he is recovering from a motorcycle accident and Dave Goodwin who's mother has just recently passed away. Also, pray for the West Hanover Wood Ministry in our travels to and from our wood yard. If you find yourself with some time on your hands and have nothing to do come on out on a Wednesday. It's not all work and no fun, we do work hard and we also have fun doing it.

Our West Hanover Wood Ministry articles will be short during Dick Lear’s absence, so until he returns we will do our best to share our ministry’s activities.

If you would like to help with cutting, splitting, and delivering wood to the wood ministry families contact Fredy Calderon at 804-357-5504 or [email protected] or Dick Lear at 703-855-9831, [email protected]. Deliveries are usually made on Wednesday and/or Saturday mornings. A couple hours of your time each week could make a huge difference to one of our family’s lives. Thanks in advance for supporting our wood ministry with your time & talent, trucks, chainsaws, gas & oil, donations and the camaraderie you provide to the group.

The Way of Love — by Katherine Kehler

I awoke early this morning with the “Love Chapter” of the Bible on my mind: 1 Corinthians 13. I read it in several different translations of the Bible. I had not read this passage in The Message, Eugene Peterson’s paraphrased version, until today. I found it was written in such an understandable way that it left no doubt about what love isn’t and what love is. I decided to use this message of love for my devotional today. May the Lord speak to your heart as He did to mine.

The Way of Love “If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate. If I speak God’s Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, “Jump” and it jumps, but I don’t love, I’m nothing. If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love. Love never gives up.

Love cares more for others than for self. Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have. Love doesn’t strut, Doesn’t have a swelled head, Doesn’t force itself on others, Isn’t always “me first,” Doesn’t fly off the handle, Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others, Doesn’t revel when others grovel, Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth, Puts up with anything, Trusts God always, Always looks for the best, Never looks back, But keeps going to the end. Love never dies.”

Father, we want to be so filled with love, that people will see Jesus in us. We realize that we can’t change

ourselves on the inside, but Your Holy Spirit can. Today, we yield the control of hearts and minds and actions to

You and thank You for producing love in us. Amen.

J for Joy, little u for under, and capital G for God.

Hi Girls and Boys,

1 Corinthians, 13:13, "And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love".

A very dear friend came up to me not too long ago and out of the blue said, "if you love some one, tell them and so, I love you".

October is a very special month for Ms. Penny and I. October 2 is my parents 71st anniversary. October 2 is Penny's birthday and I don't dare tell you how old she is, but things you never heard of happened. My birthday is the 18th and I turn......oh you don't need to know that. But, the most important day is October 7th when we celebrate our 25th anniversary.

I am so lucky to love, be loved by, and be married to her. She taught me how to be a friend and have friends.

Now, I don't know if you have noticed but ever since JuG was created, he has been wearing these two latex bracelets. One says, "I love Jesus" and the other says, "hope, faith, and love".

Remember what Paul says and what Jesus teaches us everyday.

“God loves you” and so do I.
