Bulwell Health & Wellbeing Programme 2018This is your handy guide to a range of activities and groups that promote health and wellbeing in Bulwell. We hope there is something for everyone - from keeping fit, gardening and being creative, to socialising and making new friends.

We have tried to include as many groups as possible, but if you feel there are some missing that should get a mention, please let us know and we can update the online version of the programme! Get in touch via email to: [email protected]

Thank you to all those who have contributed, and to all the wonderful groups and organisations in Bulwell, bringing people together in such positive ways. We hope you enjoy seeing all that is going on and find time to get involved.

There are plenty of small steps you can take to improve your health and help you on your way to a long, happy and independent life.

We’ve all heard the advice about eating five different fruit and vegetables a day to keep us physically fit. Well, these are your Five Ways to Wellbeing, whatever your age! Based on a review of scientific research, these five ways have been shown to help people feel more positive about life!

Connect with the people around you. With family, friends, colleagues and neighbours, join a club and get out more. Think of these as the cornerstones of your life and invest time in developing them. Building these connections will support and enrich you every day. ................................................................................................................................................

Be Active within the limitations of your health conditions. Go for a walk or run. Step outside, Cycle, Play a game, Garden, Dance. Exercising makes you feel good. Most importantly, discover a physical activity you enjoy and that suits your level of mobility and fitness.

................................................................................................................................................

Take Notice Be curious. Catch sight of the beautiful. Remark on the unusual. Notice the changing seasons. Savour the moment, whether you are walking to work, eating lunch or talking to friends. Be aware of the world around you and what you are feeling. Reflecting on your experiences will help you appreciate what matters.

................................................................................................................................................

Keep Learning Try something new. Rediscover an old interest. Sign up for that course. Take on a different responsibility at work. Fix a bike. Learn to play an instrument or how to cook your favourite food. Set a challenge you will enjoy achieving. Learning new things will make you more confident as well as being fun.

................................................................................................................................................

Give Do something nice for a friend, or a stranger. Thank someone. Smile. Volunteer your time. Get involved with one of the many local groups. Look out, as well as in. Seeing yourself, and your happiness, linked to the wider community can be incredibly rewarding and creates connections with the people around you.
