Surprise bill for GTMMembers of Agatha’s Safety and Se-curity Association have decided to invoice the Greater Tzaneen Munici-pality for work that they have done to fi x the two tar roads from Tzaneen to the Coach House Hotel area.

Residents of the area fi rst bought tar and stone to fi x the huge potholes in the road to the SPCA/Landfi ll site. They followed up this action by em-ploying labourers to clear the over-growth on the sides of the road.

Now they have shift ed their att en-tion to the other road (past the New

The opinions/statements made herein are that of our readers and does not necessarily refl ect the views and opinions of the Bulletin. The comments of people are given verbatim. We appeal to all who take part in the debates not to use hate-speech or to

be insulting toward others.

• Senior citizens feel that the older they get the more they are neglected and maltreated. Can you identify with this or confi rm it and what is your opinion about this?

Sheneen Stevens I am not a senior citizen myself, but I see it happening all the time. The younger people are

so busy with their own lives they don’t make the time to spend with their grandparents or parents.

Amanda Strydom Sjoe. Dis vir my ‘n teer puntjie.

ou moeder “as sy by my moet kom bly eendag” verwaarloos. Nee ek wil nie eens daaraan dink! Oumense wat so staan en bedel by die robotte maak my hart baie seer... Dit is onverstaanbaar. Kosbaar met haar hardekop, ja liefl ik is my moeder! Pa was die beste ooit!

David TshepoSetabola True senior citizens are neglected by the state and familes. Government is

always talking abt youth development no more adults inclusion on development. We are the ones who r responsible for school fees, instalments, rent and transport.

Pieter Stolk Working at an old age home and being very active with the oldies, I have seen children

fi ghting about inheritance (the old lady still breathing and present) and others that MIGHT come to see them once a year, plenty are just dumped as the kids are too busy or cannot aff ord to visit more, (BMW’s, Porche’s, Mercedes, Fortuners) but there is no money! Then the opposite is also true where some kids see their parents daily, never miss a day, and there are no expenses spared, (these drive Toyota, older bakkies etc ) make one very sad!

KewpRoos Thanks Pieter. I’m one of those driving a Toyota. Haha. And I visit as often as possible, and see

that M.I.L. get everything she need — but if ever you ask her, she’ll tell you it’s the “boy’s” that do everything for her.

Pieter Stolk KewpRoos, I hear what you say, thanks for the time you take, often it is total strangers that

come in and chat, bring sweets, hold a small service, hold a hand and listen and to these people I say a big thank you!

The king of the Netshituni Empire died in a fatal car acci-dent on Friday last week. Mr Andries Netshituni was on his way to Polokwane with his wife Lucia when they collided with another vehicle just passed Turfloop at about 18:10. Paramedics attended to him on the scene and he was rushed to the Limpopo MediClinic in Polokwane, where doctors failed to save his life. Lucia sustained injuries to her hip which have left her unable to walk. The late Andries Netshituni was born on 1 July 1958 in Venda and had to learn to fend for himself early in life, after losing his parents at a young age. He beat the odds and lived to become an esteemed businessman with a love for people and charitable deeds — putting into practice his business motto “Azwibali” which means “it is possible”.

He started his passenger transport business in 1984 with the aim of providing transport services to both the public and private sectors. He started with a few taxis that would commute from Johannesburg to Venda. Today the Netshitu-

ni brand has grown into one of the most sought-after passenger coach transport services. Lucia described her husband as a kind man, who was down to earth. “He was the best father in the world. I know I am going to struggle with the kids now that he is gone. He was my best friend. We really had a good time together and I will dearly miss him”. Andries loved soccer (he was a big Kaizer Chiefs fan) and luxury cars. He leaves behind his wife Lucia of thirteen years, and their three boys, Andrew (22), Junior (11) and Aluani (6). His fu-neral will be held on Sunday in Thohoyandou.

The DA will re-introduce a no confi -dence motion against Limpopo Premier Cassel Mathale following new revela-tions of travel abuse involving chartered helicopter fl ights.

The latest round of R82 000 spent on charted fl ights comes aft er Mathale spent R641 410 on travel claims in the 2011/12 fi nancial year. This was revealed by the DA’s questions in the legislature’s public accounts committ ee late last year.

The DA’s caucus leader in the Legis-lature, Ms Desiree van der Walt, made a formal appeal to the Speaker, Mr Ru-dolph Phala, to review his refusal to al-low a motion of no confi dence against the Premier to be debated last month.

“The Premier used taxpayer’s money to rent a helicopter for a fl ight between

Polokwane and Musina in January at an estimated cost of R82 000. We can confi rm that Premier Mathale has been abusing his powers to take chartered he-licopter fl ights since 2011,” says Van der Walt.

She says the DA witnessed this abuse fi rst-hand during Chief Kgoshi Male-boho’s inauguration on 14 May 2011, where Mathale arrived in a helicopter to att end the event.

“Premier Mathale is a serial abuser of the law and cares very litt le about the need to use public funds for basic service delivery in Limpopo instead. The money he blows on helicopter fl ights could have been used to purchase textbooks, or pro-vide water and proper sanitation for the citizens of Limpopo,” said Van der Walt.

RIGHT: Mediclinic’s nursing practitioners are the life blood of their hospitals. They are the ones who help bring new life into the world, and see death steal it away. They wipe away tears and offer comfort. International Nurses Day is an opportunity to acknowledge the lengths nursing practitioners go to every day. At this time they present the Mediclinic Nursing Excellence Award to a nursing prac-titioner at each hospital. These individuals are chosen by their peers, patients and their families. The recipient for this year’s award at Mediclinic Tzaneen is Ms

Portia Masenamela, a well-qualified nursing sister.

Letsitele SAPS arrest 42The Letsitele Police arrested 42 people du-ring the course of the week. The highest number of people (seven) was arrested for operating a business without a licence. Six people were taken into custody for assault, fi ve for possession of suspected stolen prop-erty, four each for contravening the Road Traffi c Act and Environmental Act. Three

Tzaneen police grab 40The station commissioner of the SAPS Tzaneen, Brig D Mashele, announced that the police in Tzaneen arrested forty people during last week. These off enders will be charged as follows:

Six off enders for theft , one for housebreak-ing and theft , four for drunken driving, one foir fraud, four for theft by false pretence, three for shoplift ing, fi ve for assault GBH, three for robbery, one for possession of dag-ga, one for malicious damage to property, two for theft out of a motor vehicle, fi ve for assault, one for sexual assault, one for mur-der and one for arson.

Const Glenda Maimele, the Tzaneen SAPS’s spokesperson, also issued a warning about a new scam. She said people are cal-ling at night and pretend to be bank offi cials in order to rectify banking details for clients. Under no circumstances should people give their details, including pin codes, because “they are going to withdraw your money”.

Cell thief caught Mr Sydney Ethwell of Northen Security chased and caught an alleged cell phone thief on Friday.

The alleged thief stole the cell phone from a bakkie that was parked at Adams Café in Tzaneen. There was no evidence of forced entry on the bakkie said the owner.

Ethwell said he chased the suspect over two blocks, jumping a palisade and a wire fence in the process. He said the suspect even hid in a Rott weiler dog’s kennel at a house in Crown Street. The suspect was unarmed when he was caught and alleged that the cell phone he is said to have stolen was broken when he found it. Ethwell however said that the suspect threw the cell phone into a bush during the chase.

The personnel of Northern Security fi nally

handed the suspect over to the Tzaneen po-lice, who took almost fi ft y minutes to re-spond to a call for help.

Baby girl dies, mother arrested

The police in Tzaneen arrested a 24 year-old woman in connection with child neglect and for questioning regarding the death of her six day-old baby girl. This incident took place at Mohlakong in the Bolobedu South area last Thursday.

It is alleged that the mother of the deceased woke up and went to the toilet and when she returned, she noticed that the house was on fi re. Aft er the fi re had been extinguished the charred body of the baby was found.

The cause of fi re is still unknown but the police investigations are ongoing, according to Lt col Moatshe Ngoepe, the Tzaneen po-lice’s communications offi cer.

The death of the child followed on the woman giving birth last week. She then al-legedly went to Polokwane, leaving the child with her brother. He reported the matt er to the SAPS.

The case of child neglect case was then opened and the police started looking for the mother, but to no avail. However, on Thurs-day night the mother returned and later that night the child died in the fi re.

The suspect will appear in the Bolobedu Magistrate’s Court on a charge of child ne-glect and also on a possible additional charge of murder and arson.

Burnt alive The bizarre demise of Judas Patric Ramphadi (32) has caused a series of investigations into the events leading to his death.

Ramphadi is said to have left home on 14 June at about 18:00 together with his brother to go look for catt le in the mountainous area. The two men then delayed coming home and decided to start a fi re and sleep over on the mountain with the aim of returning home the following day.

The brother walked away to relieve himself and suddenly smelled something burning.

When he went to in-vestigate, he found his brother’s clothes had caught fi re and that he burnt to death.

The brother then ran home to call for help.

The Maake police were called to Ma-soma to analyse the situation. A rescue team was activated and managed to re-cover the corpse.

The family of the de-ceased confi rmed that the deceased suff ered from epilepsy which could have led to his death. A post mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death, and in the meanwhile police in-vestigations are on-going.

Bulletin supports any lawful action to end violence against our women and children

Friday 21 June 2013

Action, at lastLast week we approached Tzaneen’s mayor and the municipal manager about the continiuous problems caused by a huge hardware shop bordering Skirving, Messer and Kew streets.

Less than a week aft er our visit a clean-up operation started, removing huge lots of building materials, scrap, pallets and other goods from the pavements.

It shouldn’t be necessary to thank the GTM for the action that has been taken, since it is part of their responsibility to watch over the towns cleanliness and the maintenace of good order.

However, we extend a thank you to the MM who acted immediately, to sort out a matt er that has been ongoing for the last couple of years. Bulletin has been relent-less in focusing on the abuse of streets and pavements in the area, to no avail.

Previous municipal managers did noth-ing to att end to the matt er, despite the fact that they were informed of the situation.

Fact is that the GTM’s capacity to do reg-ular inspections at building sites, of streets and pavements, at public spaces and to en-force health regulations has been more or less zero in recent years. Or where irregu-larities have been inspected, no follow-up actions were implemented.

Hopefully we have a new dispensation that will show that law and order regard-ing local government’s rules and by-laws will be respected and enforced.

The Message

Can a Leopard change its spots? This is a question to which many would an-swer no. In the physical sense this is impossible when referring to an ac-tual Leopard.

But we oft en use this metaphorically when referring to a person.

When someone is known to be a crimi-nal or has the tendency to do wrong then we oft en think that this person cannot change. “Once a criminal always a crimi-nal” seems to be the thought that we all have. Sometimes we go through life with blinkers on our eyes, thinking that we are doing the right thing. We go to church regularly, we have a certain status in the community and generally to the outside world and to ourselves we seem to be just about perfect. But then someone drops a bombshell and tells you that you have had it wrong all the time. You might have thought all was well but perhaps uncon-sciously you have been a real ogre. Your temper and the way you react when you are upset cause hurt and sometimes even pain for others. Thus rightly one could say that once you are like this you can never change and the best thing for others is to avoid you, especially those you have hurt.

Now comes the good news: God sees all this and He decides that it is time that He does something, aft er all He has a plan for each of us. He calls you to serve Him, now many will think “How can this per-son who was so bad be called by God.” God wants to change all of us for the bet-ter, thus oft en He will use you in His ser-vice to make you a bett er person. No hu-man can change his “spots” on his own, but God can. He can show you where you went wrong and by serving others He can teach you to be a bett er person. The Bible tells of the people Jesus called to be His disciples and most of them were sinners in some way or the other yet He changed them. They became true follow-ers of Christ. I think that the crux of the matt er is are you willing to follow Christ and do you believe that He can change you for the bett er? Only once you accept His calling will you know that through Him all things are possible and it is not through your own power but through His love and grace for you that you can be changed. Be of good cheer because He will call you at some time or the other, be willing to have Him change you.

Blessings

Tzaneen was overcome by a sea of Mini Coopers as Mini Drivers SA members made their way to Pharare Village with winter warmers.

They visited Ms Maria Malatji who has taken in 26 children to live with her on a full-time basis. She also cares for non-orphaned children during the day, providing them with food and assisting with homework. She can have up to fi ft y children in her house and cares for up to fi ft y children during the day.

Malatji’s orphanage was suggested to the organization along with eight others and af-ter a selection process, Mini Drivers SA chose hers for their annual blanket run.

The Mini Drivers, however, donated more than just blankets to this needy home. Among the items that were donated were 57 blankets as well as a food parcel comprising of 64 diff erent items. As part of their tradi-tion the 31 Mini Coopers also took the chil-dren for a ride, with hopes of inspiring them to dream big.

Mini SA was established in December 2011 with the aim of bringing together people who enjoy their cars, while taking part in charity and social activities.

Top entry for Tzaneen RallyThere will be plenty of action on Saturday next week for Tzaneen’s rally fans with the third round of the Northern Regions Championship starting at the Tzaneen Lifestyle Centre. The rst car leaves from the back parking area at 10:00.

There will be six Special Stages, each one of them having one or more spectator points. This year the organisers have incorporated a short stage near the Land Fill site which nishes near the test grounds. This will be used a second time, when the cars will use a short section inside the test grounds on paving.

This will provide good, dust free, safe spectator opportunities for families where the cars will be on view for over 600 metres. There will also be a new spectator’s point on one of the forest stages, not previously accessible.

The latest news is that at least one top national

competitor will be here in a fast class S2000 four wheel drive car. Tzaneen’s own Japie van Niekerk recently purchased a Ford M Sport-prepared Fiesta. He missed the chance of a rst time outing on the Toyota Gauteng Rally earlier this month, due to technical problems — so he is keen to get some valuable “seat time” and to get used to the left hand drive.

An identical car to this is driven by 2012 National Champion, Mark Cronje. Mark dominated the rst two rounds of the 2013 Championship. Three other Tzaneen crews have entered: Eddie Simpson & Marco Lottering in an Opel Corsa, Erik de Jager in a Golf and Pieter Pilusa, also in a Golf.

Spectator guides, the entry list and maps will be available on www.rallyworld.net from Wednesday 26 June. Watch the Bulletin for the latest news next week.

2013 Aston Martin Vanquish Volante

In addition to becoming the fi rst Aston Martin Vanquish model to adopt a folding canvas roof, the Volante is the fi rm’s fi rst drop-top model to feature a carbon-fi bre body shell stretched over its aluminium substructure.

Although there is the inevitable weight penalty that accompanies all sportscars when the roof is chopped off , the diff erence between the 1 844 kg Volante and its fi xed-roof sibling is just 9 kg. As-ton Martin also claims that this new construction improves torsional rigidity by 14 per cent over that of the preceding DBS Volante.

The centrepiece — that folding roof — is a triple-layer item that can be electrically folded beneath an aerodynamic, dual-dome, tonneau cover in just 14 seconds. Aston Martin has modifi ed the stow-age arrangement to free up 279 dm3 with the roof up or down.

Power is provided by the same 6,0-litre V12 do-ing service in the fi xed-roof Vanquish. Coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission, this unit channels 421 kW and 620 N.m to the rear wheels – good enough for a claimed 0-100 km/h run of 4,1 seconds on the way to a 294 km/h top speed.

RUBBERISING

4 Skirving Street, TzaneenBertus: 083 450 2426 | 079 222 2900 | 015 307 7775

Haar gunsteling wedrenne is op roe-tes by plekke soos Wolmaransstad. Haar gun-steling wedren was verlede jaar se junior nasionale kampioen-skappe in Greytown.

2013 World Car of the Year

The seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf has just been named as World Car of the Year. This is the second year in a row that Volkswagen has won this award. Last year it was awarded to the company’s innovative Up! supermini.

The Golf came out on top out of a group of 42 new vehicles. This was then narrowed down to ten until only four remained – the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Porsche Boxster/Cayman, the combined entry of the Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ/Toyota 86 and the Volkswagen Golf 7.

According to jurors on the World Car of the Year Award panel, “The Volkswagen Golf is as close to the perfect hatchback design as any car company has come yet. Right sized,

but spacious, practical

and comfortable inside, the latest Golf has been brought up to date with a fresh if evolutionary design, a range of new engines, plus an impressive list of equipment and safety features. What’s more, it’s fun to drive. If ever there was a car for everyman, the Golf is it”.

Other accolades went to the Porsche Boxster/Cayman for World Performance Car, the Tesla Model S for the World Green Car and the stunning Jaguar F-Type for World Car Design.

The World Car awards is now in its 9th year and was established as a means to acknowledge and reward automotive excellence on an international scale. This year, no fewer than 66 journalists m a d e up the judging

panel. Carmag.co.za

Everyday South African employers are challenged with a shortage of enough qualified and experienced employees. Students at FET colleges are good future source of such employees. These students can be tried for free by companies and at the same time help to develop their skills by offering them a short period of work experience or exposure. As Work Placement Coordinators our assignment is to place students who registered for National Certificates (Vocational), National Diplomas with employers for a period of Workplace-Based Experience (WBE) which could be in the form of job shadowing or In-service training. Our goal is to place students and lecturers without industry exposure for between five to ten days consecutive days in each year of study for job shadowing and 18 months for In-service training for the National Diploma courses.During the placements, employers are asked to orientate students to their companies and allow them to work alongside employees doing jobs related to the students’ field of study. These students will also be monitored by their lecturers and college coordinators. Logbooks will be completed to assist them to have track records of their experience. For many young people who will obtain this kind of experience it will be life transforming to them. They will be able to develop a better understanding of their chosen career and how it is practised in the workplace. This will motivate them to study harder and succeed in their studies. Many of them will want to forge relationship with employers that will lead them to secure immediate job offers after

graduation.Employers will benefit too. Students are source of future employees that you get to know before hiring. By hosting students, employers get a chance to influence the training that the college provides and slant it more towards the needs of their industries. Employers can also get points on their company’s BBEE scorecard.Should a company be willing to host two or more of our students we would gladly assist by facilitating the placement process.Job shadowing placement for National Certificate (Vocational) occurs during June/July vacation period. In service work placement for National Diploma students are scheduled for July and December. These experiential training are aligned with the department of Higher Education and Training requirements. There is no financial or compensation expected from the host employer. The only cost of the host is their supervision time during their time in the company. We hope that more companies will join us in this important exercise. Companies are invited to contact us to explore how placing our students can grow their business and bottom lineFor more information on work placement at the college please feel free to contact:Mrs Ludik at [email protected] Mohale at [email protected] orcall 015 307 5440 fax 015 307 2204Courses (NCV AND NATeD) offereD AT our College Are meNTioNeD below iN mAAke, TzANeeN AND giyANi CAmpuses.

Sies vir julle, Suid-Afrika!“It seems to be the fate of idealists to obtain what they have struggled for in a form which destroys their ideals.” — Bertrand Russell

Bokkieweek?

Alan Gordon from Tzaneen and four team mates (Team OwnSurance/V Office) participated in the 32nd “Tour de Mau-rice” in Mauritius — with seven stages over 537 km. From stage one the team took control, taking the team time trial by 25 se-conds and giving Alan the yellow (overall leader) and white (overall junior) Jersey.

The team held on to yellow for the first three stages, and Alan taking the white jersey to the end. Adolf Krige won stage three and Alan stage six in the mountains. But five time winner Yannick Lincoln ended up taking the overall win from Alan who came second and Adolf who finished third. The Mauritians with their French origins, take cycling very se-riously and supported the race in huge numbers. The friendly rivalry between Yannick and Alan, played out in the Mauritian papers, started last year when Alan impressed with winning the KOM. Alan has committed to going back in 2014 to take the win.

The men’s league team of Duiwelskloof Bowls Club competed in the finals against a team from Warm Baths in Polokwane on Saturday. Bowls of a very high standard produced the Limpopo League Champions.

Ally Morrison, Johan Benade, Doug Reed and Damien Stefaans played in the fours in one of the matches during the morning, whilst Zane Fanie had to play a singles match at the same time. In both sections Duiwelskloof defeated their opponents by a considerable margin.

During the afternoon session the combinations of Johan Benade, Zane Fanie and Damien Stefaans (Trips) and Ally Morrison and Doug Reed (Pairs) once again played flawless bowls. Duiwelskloof’s men lost only one game for the duration of the league competition.

• That’s the way to do it!

Alan only just missed out on the win
