A new school dog! Gromit arrives at Clifton High...

There was much excitement in the first assembly of term as Dr Neill and Mr Ayers introduced the newest member of

the Clifton High community. A peek of some familiar looking toes from under the cover gave a few eagle eyed

children in the front rows an early glimpse of the most famous dog in Bristol who has come to visit the school as part

of ‘Gromit Unleashed’, a city wide campaign supporting Wallace and Gromit’s Grand Appeal at the Children’s

Hospital. Gromit is now guarding our front door for all to see and pupils are invited to submit a design for decorating

the plain white sculpture and three winning designs will be interpreted by Clifton High student artists to be painted

onto our Gromit.

The deadline for designs is Tuesday 7th May and there will be a ‘mufti’ day on Thursday 25th April to raise the

money for our entry to the competition which could win us a visit from an Aardman Animations model maker!

Well done to

Gemma in

Y12 for being

one of 50

elite dancers

in Andrew

Lloyd Webber’s Cats at the NIA for

over 7,000 people for Stagecoach’s

25th anniversary. Gemma said her

knees hurt from behaving like a cat

for two days!

Jess North of

dropped in for

a series of

Futures and

Skills drop-in sessions for sixth

formers interested in possible gap

year and volunteering opportunities

after their A levels.

Y6 were

treated to a

visit from

dietician Mrs

Turner to talk

about the

importance of nutrients in the body.

They discovered that skimmed milk is

one of the best drinks to have

following exercise - a useful tip!

Midday Supervisor Vacancy

Two members of our excellent Midday Supervisor team are moving to pastures new next month so we are looking for some additional supervisors to join us.

Our supervisors work between one and five days per week, for up to 2 hours per day (between 1130-1330) depending on the age group, during term time only.

Midday supervisors escort the children in Nursery - Year 6 to lunch, supervise them in the dining hall and playgrounds and also in quiet activities after lunch with the youngest children. They work as part of a team of supervisors. Supporting the children is rewarding and often highly entertaining!

The current rate of pay is £6.46 per hour, with additional payment for bank holidays. Clifton High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and all staff are subject to an enhanced disclosure through the Disclosure and Barring Service.

If you would be interested in joining our dedicated team of supervisors we would be delighted to hear from you. Please email Mr Richards: [email protected]

100 more new hi-vis jackets!

We are very grateful to the Avon and Somerset Police Community Trust who have kindly supplied one hundred ‘hi-vis’ vests to be worn by the younger members of the school when they are out and about. Barratt Homes also supplied a set of similar vests recently and we now have enough to allow us to take several groups of children out on the same day. Such support from the community is very much appreciated and will help ensure all the children are safe.

Letters and diary

You may not be aware but all school letters and the school diary can be found on the school website: www.cliftonhigh.bristol.sch.uk For letters, click on a department, then scroll down to Parents/Letters and log-in with the secure parent code. Creative Arts Evening

What do a Glee Club & a Techno Shamen jacket have in common?

The only way to find out is come along to the inaugural Creative and Performing Arts Evening. We can promise you an evening of wonderful songs and musical performances, tempt you with delicious canapés & amaze you with a fabulous catwalk show.

The Glee Club will be performing for the first time along side the school orchestra, choirs and flute group. The GCSE Food Technology students will be serving a range of canapés during the interval and the GCSE & A level Textiles students will be revealing their garments and products made for their coursework in a catwalk show. All this entertainment will be crammed into one evening only!

Are you interested in seeing this wonderful culmination of talent or just plain curious as to what exactly a Techno Shamen jacket looks like?

Either way, this is what you need to know:

Thursday 2nd May 2013

7.30pm start for around two hours.

Free but we are supporting The Legacy Register, a Bristol based organ donation charity, with a retiring collection.

Barcelona as well as grape-treading at a

vineyard and a local dance class!

You will have

polar bears - we thought you would

like to know that they raised a

fantastic £120 from their self-initiated

“I loved our trip

to Brittany. The

best thing was

going to the

aquarium and

touching a

shark! I also

liked the ferry journey.” “A fabulous

experience. Brittany was by far the best

trip I have done. Everything that we did

was thought out very well, and I wish I

could do it again next year!” (Y7 quotes)
