Next Monday, February 16th, is a state holiday. Classes will not be held at the University. The Academic Ce.lendar, \-7hich sets February 23rd, is in error. Regular Monday schedule is to be observed on the 23rd.
Professor George Goodwin, Jr., Chairman of the Department of Politics, has been named Acting Chairman of the Social Sciences Division to replace Professor Richard H. Powers, '·Jho is on sabbatical leave for the spring term.
Professor Robert E. Hoopes has joined the faculty of the English Department. Until January 1st, Professor Hoopes ·Has the chairman of the Department of English at Oakland University, where he also served as Dean of Faculty from 1959-1961. Prior to this, he was Vice-President of the American Council of Learned Societies and spent eight years on the faculty of Stanford University.
Mr. Ayi Kwei Armah has been appointed Lecturer in the English Dep<'lrtment. Born in Ghana, Mr,Armah is the author of several articles and short stories, and two novels, The Beautyful Ones Are Not Yet Born and Fragments, both published by Houghton Mifflin. '
Mr. Cl aude L. Fe aver II has been appointed Administrative Assistant to the Ch2ncellor. A graduate of Harvard College, Mr. Fe aver has served with ABCD, SNCC, and \lli th the Educetional Development Commission against Discrimination. Mr. Heaver \-Jill v!Ork mainly with community ? rograms and special educational projects.

It is v1ith g!"eat pleasure that \-Je announce the award of second place to Professor Luis Ricardo Alonso's novel, El Candidate, in the 1969 Nadal Prize. The jury of five sitting in Barcelona, received 127 novels. In the final, El Candidato received two votes for first. Three votes went to Garcia Pavon's Las hermanas coloradas. Both novels ~-rill be published in the Nadal series. Professor Alonso's first novel, Territorio Libre, was published in 1966 shortly after his resignation as Cuban Ambassador to London.
In case of heavy snow or other emergencies seriously hampering trans··Jortation, classes will be cancelled at the University. Announcement of cancellation will be carried beginning shortly after 6:30 A.M. on the following radio stations: WBZ, WCOP, WEE!, HEZE, FHDH, ~:7RKO. Only closings are announced. The absence of announcement means that regular classes will be held.

Class lists reflecting enrollment updated with ADD/DROPS during Registration will be available in Department Offices on February 9th.
February 17th - Class Lists Updated class lists will be distributed for all sections and courses. Please take attendance during the week. If you have a name but no student appearing, simply draw ~ line through the name and print (D) drop in the parenthesis after the name. To add a student please print legibly the student's full name and student number at the bottom of the-sheet. On Thursday, February 26th, your updated class list is to be returned to the Registrar's; ffice. Our updated class list will be distributed before mid-semester.
Until Monday, February 23rd, students may add or drop courses without record by returning a Change of Course Card signed by the instructo;-and advi~to the Registrar's Office.
April 3rd is the closing date for mid-semester grades.
Students may withdraw from courses with a ''W" grade which is not entered into the student's cumulative until Monday, May 25th, the last day before the Final Examination Period ( 'HP" and "HF" grades have been eliminated).
