This Week at the CC

We’re now two weeks into the new semester here at USC, and things are starting to settle down -- we’re adjusting to new schedules, forming or rediscovering social circles, and starting to get involved with clubs and activities! It seems appropriate that now, at the start of a new semester, we get today’s readings, which are ALL about the cost of learning.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us about the greater cost of discipleship. As the final line says, “anyone of you who does not renounce all (his) possessions cannot be my disciple.” But we have to remember that to be a disciple is to be a student. In order to follow Christ, we have to dedicate ourselves to learning more about God, and learning more about Christ’s teaching. According to this Gospel, we are asked to put that learning first in our lives. Are we willing to do that? Are we willing to make time for our relationship with Christ amidst busy studies and work? Are we committed to making time for prayer, for loving our neighbor and ourselves, for gathering as a Christian community, and making those a priority?

As we continue to adjust to the new semester, ask yourself where you can make a commitment to putting your relationship with God first.

SMALL GROUP BIBLE STUDYLife isn't meant to be lived alone. You were created to experience life with other people, and that's why at the CC we encourage you to get into a Small Group Bibly Study! It consists of three or more people who gather each week in a dorm, at the Catholic Center, or on campus. In a group you'll hang out, study the Word, and pray together. Groups come in all shapes and sizes - mens and womens groups, Greek, sports - the list goes on. No matter where you are in life, there's a group for you. Ready to dive in? PRAISE & WORSHIP BAND - JAM NIGHTOCT 1 @ 7pm in Newman Hall // We're starting a Praise & Worship band! The band will lead worship on Catholic Trojan Retreats, Savior Series, and other spiritual events that we provide at Our Savior Church. If you would like to be a part of this worship community as a singer, instrumentalist, or audio visual support team, we would love for you to come pray with us at our first ever JAM SESSION.
