QUESTIONS REGARDING PARISH ANNUAL FINANCIAL

REPORT 2018:

What does “Assistance from Archdiocese of Newark” mean?

It is the money that the Archdiocese takes from our school (Starting Point School) rental when we need help for repairs of more than $25,000.00. You see, this is how it works: Starting Point School sends their rent to the Arch-diocese, not to us. #e Archdiocese then deposits it to our account. If we need %nancial help for major repairs, the Archdiocese sends us what we need, taking it out from our account. In other words, it isn’t subsidized by the Archdio-cese. It is our money.

EXPECTANT MOTHERS

Calling all moms who are expecting babies, please know that we have a team who takes care of celebrating your joy through a “Gathering To Rejoice!” Every month we have a scheduled event for that. #e team is there to rejoice with you for the precious gi/ of your child and also will assist you towards baptism and beyond. Please let us know by stopping by or calling the parish o*ce at 201-434-7500. We will be very happy to be with you!

IS YOUR MARRIAGE VALID?

If you were married civilly, that is, not in the Catholic Church before a priest or deacon, it might not be a valid marriage. Some couples believe that a marriage before a Justice of the Peace or a non-Catholic minister is valid. For a marriage to be valid in the Catholic Church, the marriage must be in a Catholic Church or Chapel and o&ciated by an authorized Catholic priest or deacon along with 2 witnesses. (%ere are limited interfaith exceptions with proper permission.) We invite you to speak with one of our priests if there are any questions or if indeed you wish to validate your marri-age. %e process can be very simple and your marriage will now be blessed by the Church.

WARNING!

My dear parishioners, Please be advised to make extra careful when you walk at our parking lot by Lembeck Avenue, especially by the ramp towards the main entrance of the Church. As you can see, the pavement is not even. I want to let you know that I have already addressed that to the Archdiocese and by spring time, a!er snow season, we will be doing the paving job. So please watch your steps carefully! $ank you for your cooperation. - Father Marty

PARKING CONSIDERATION!

Dear Parishioners,

I ask your assistance in resolving a potentially dangerous si-tuation. As you know, parking is not permitted along Brother Stan Drive. %e area has been marked again with new signage and the curb painted red. However, parishioners regularly park there for Mass. Emergency vehicles cannot make the turn from Lembeck on to Brother Stan Drive and up Pearsall. As you know, seconds are precious for response time in a life-threatening emergency. I ask you to be considerate and to respect the tra&c laws. I realize that parking is limited and remind you to allow adequate time for parking in legally designated spaces when attending Mass. Arriving close to the start of Mass and !nding a spot close to the Church is unlikely. In the next few weeks, cones will also be pla-ced on Brother Stan Drive during Masses as yet another reminder not to park there. Please abide by the parking regulations so as not to potentially endanger the life and safety of your neighbors and to avoid a potential ticket or tow. %ank you for your attention.

130 PEOPLE ATTEND

MONDAY MEETING AT OLM

!ere were 130 people at the Monday, Febru-ary 5, meeting sponsored by the OLM Chapter of Jersey City Together. !e meeting was attended by representatives of the Jersey City Police Department, including: Captain Peter Veltre, South District Com-mander; Deputy Police Chief Edgar Martinez; and O#cer Mariela Fernandez, Community Relations O#cer. Also present were Mr. Rolando Lavarro, President of the Jersey City Council, and Ms. Denise Ridley, Council Representative of our area, and Mr. Richard Dwyer, Regional Public A$airs Manager of PSE&G. !e %rst part of the meeting dealt with ques-tions and concerns regarding the new much higher utility poles being installed in our area and the new substation on 63rd Street in Bayonne. We learned that the new poles are to accommodate the higher voltage lines being installed throughout the state to accommodate higher demand and to ensure more reliable service. !e new substation is part of that project. !is facility is also built to resist 'ooding. !e second part of the meeting focused on public safety. !e Captain announced that the two persons who beat and assaulted one of our parishio-ners walking home from Mass on Saturday, January 26, have been arrested. Her granddaughter, Shaina, who was present at the meeting, expressed thanks to the police department and to the community for their support. In response to a request at the meeting, Captain Veltre promised to work on establishing a stronger relationship between OLM and the South District police o#cers. Such a relationship would encourage better communication and greater understanding between residents and those responsible for our area of the city. In response to concerns that were raised, he also said he would institute more regular patrols of the Danforth Shopping Plaza. He also said he would address the number of tractor trailers parked along Route 440 South in the morning as they wait to enter the Global Container Terminal. !e Captain encouraged everyone to install security cameras outside of their homes and to in-crease their exterior lighting. He also mentioned that many car the(s are caused by people failing to lock their cars or not keeping their valuables out of view. All present agreed the meting was bene%cial. !e OLM Core Team of JCT pledged to do their best to make certain that what was promised would happen.
