Guatemala Head Coach Alvinzi Pelaez: “We worked very hard on playing together as a team and having as few service errors as possible so that we could maintain control throughout the game. (On playing the USA in the fi nals): It’s really a great sa sfac on to play against a team like the USA. We have paid close a en on to how their team plays and we hope to be able to use some eff ec ve tac cs against them when we play tomorrow. We know that our greatest limita on is our height compared to them. We hope it’s going to be a good game. The experience will help us grow as a team, which we can take to the next level.”

Guatemala Captain Oscar Garcia: “We really want to thank St. Lucia for playing such a good game and we want to thank God for being on our side. Despite losing last night against the USA, we came away with a lot more confi dence. We feel really good about the next game. (On playing the USA in the fi nals) We’ve got to be a li le realis c. We came here to be able to get to the next level, and we are hoping that tomorrow we can play a good game against the USA and do our best.” St. Lucia Head

Coach Kendall Charlery: “We have a pre y young, inexperienced group of players. The only way to get be er is with exposure in tournaments such as this. The World Championship third round is new territory for us. We will hold our heads up. This tournament is giving us things to work on and get be er for future tournaments.”

St. Lucia Captain Jason Octave: “We have good fi ght in this young team. We tend to lose focus on big points. We are neck-and-neck with our opponent un l we lose those key points and cannot come back. We need to do be er in that stage to extend matches. Tomorrow’s match should be a good match against Hai . We lost to them earlier in this tournament. I hope our guys can come back, fi ght hard and have fun.”

United States Team Captain Sean Rooney: “It was nice to see a new lineup. Diff erent guys got to play together. And we accomplished what we came to do, which is ge ng in the fi nals. Star ng now we are going to prepare for that.” United States Head Coach John Speraw: “We did some really good things technically that we have been working on so I think we con nue to improve in that area. There was a series of service errors in the second set that I want to make sure we re-focus on. Guatemala is a good volleyball team. They con nue to play well with a lot of enthusiasm. They were thrilled to get to the fi nal and it was neat to see them celebrate the way they did.”

Hai Head Coach Yves Larrieux: “We know already that the USA is a winning machine. Before tonight’s match, we prepared the team more on the psychological side so that they would not give up. We tried to put some plays in the game that would confuse them. USA has a very strong middle block, but on the outside they are not as strong, and that’s where we tried to focus our a ack. In the fi rst two sets, our team could not adjust their game to the Americans. In the third set, we were more organized and we were able to put the USA in some diffi cult posi ons.”

Hai Captain Ralph Adolph: “We tried really hard to get as many points as we could against the USA. In the fi rst two sets it was hard to do, but in the third set we scored 15 points, and we are very happy about that. Our objec ve tonight was to win a set. It was the fi rst me we have played the USA. But we know what we have to work on, and we are going to con nue to work hard.”
