JUNE 3, 2018 - CORPUS CHRISTI SUNDAY The Covenant in Blood and Body

“God is love”; He does not have love, as something added to Him, something that may or may not be present, that is capable of change, increase, or decrease. He is love; it is the way He is in His essential nature. I may tell you that I have a glass of water or a reservoir of water, but it is in an entirely different category to say that I am water! To have water means that my posses-sion of it is subject to change whether by increase or decrease, but to be water means I am never subject to change because it is what I am! He is the definition of love; love is the way He is. Agape” (Malcolm Smith, Power of the Blood Covenant: Uncover the Secret Strenth of God’s Eternal Oath.) “Sociologists argue that in contemporary Western society the market-place has become so dominant that the consumer model increasingly character-izes most relationships that historically were covenantal, including marriage. Today we stay connected to people only as long as they are meeting our partic-ular needs at an acceptable cost to us. When we cease to make a profit - that is, when the relationship appears to require more love and affirmation from us than we are getting back - then we "cut our loses" and drop the relationship. This has also been called "commodification," a process by which social rela-tionships are reduced to economic exchange relationships, and so the very idea of "covenant" is disappearing in our culture. Covenant is therefore a concept increasingly foreign to us, and yet the Bible says it is the essence of mar-riage.” (Timothy J. Keller, The Meaning of Marriage: Facing the Complexities of Commitment with the Wisdom of God. We are lamenting over climate change and make a fuss over global warming, and yet we overlook the deterioration of social human relationship which is becoming more and more impersonal and inhumane. We are making humanity a robotic world where relationship is no more than legal, commercial, ritual, political and materially beneficial. Relationship is conducted by way of negotiation, and love is framed within its conditions. Money is taking its throne over the heart of humanity. We are becoming afraid of true love, which is a covenant in blood and body. Said a disciple, “I don’t trade my love for money.” Said the Master, “Isn’t it as bad—or worse—that you trade it for love?” (Awakening, Anthony De Mello) God wants to restore humanity back to its very nature that truly brings life to men and women in this world. This very nature cannot grow without an intimate loving relationship. Today we celebrate this relationship which is made by the covenant in the Blood and the Body of Christ, our Savior. Fr. Peter Truong

Pastor and the Parish greatly thank all parishioners who participated in saving coins to respond to the cry of the poor around the world. This year we have collected $847.00 to offer to the Rice Bowl Ministry from Catholic Relief Services of the Diocese. Jesus the Lord surely recognized your love for God and your neighbors. May God al-ways bless you. We continue the mission with our own ‘Pennies of Heaven’ and St. Vincent De Paul Society to respond to our local people who are in need.

Following the footstep of St. Francis of Assisi, we worship God with acts of Charity, and we love our neighbors with faith in Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer.
