BRUCE GREY CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD – VISION STATEMENT
Committed to a vibrant Catholic education, we ensure quality learning experiences through community partnerships that nurture each student in mind, body and spirit and embrace the
teachings of Christ, giving witness to Gospel values.
THE SEASON OF ADVENT
Advent is about preparing to celebrate the birth of our Saviour and preparing for his Second Coming.
Dear Lord: People waited thousands of years for the Saviour. Sometimes it feels that long when we wait for something. Help us wait patiently this Advent for the gift of your Son. Thank you for sending Jesus to light our world. May
we be a light to others this Advent. We ask this through Jesus, the light of the world. Amen. As a school we will begin each week with the lighting of a candle on our Advent wreath to show our path towards Christmas. As we journey,we prepare our hearts by our thoughts, prayers and actions for the celebration of the birth of Jesus.
HE IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON
Christmas is a time of great joy and excitement for children who wait with anticipation to receive presents from Santa and loved ones.
Keeping Christ’s birth at the heart of the celebration can be hard, but not impossible.
We can help our children focus on the true meaning of Christmas in the following ways:
place the nativity scene as a focal point in your home;
assist with or contribute to charity drives;
read the story of Christ’s birth daily;
engage in a small advent lighting ceremony each week of Advent as a family;
on Christmas morning sing “Happy Birthday” to Jesus before you open up the gifts under the tree.
Christmas holds a deeper meaning for us all when we stay focused on its true meaning.
The staff of Immaculate Conception School would like to wish
everyone Joyeux Noël
May God Bless you and your family.
Saint of the Month:
Immaculate Conception of
Mary (December 8)
Mary of Nazareth was a young maiden of Israel 2013 years ago, who waited with trusting and joyful hope for the coming of the Saviour. As God’s faithful servant, Mary entrusted herself to God’s plan when she said “Yes!” to the call to be the Mother of Jesus. Hail Mary full of grace, pray for us, that we may be people of joyful hope who hear and respond to God’s call in our lives. Amen.

DECEMBER VIRTUE :
Hope
Hope is having a joyful trust in the future, even when we are experiencing difficulty in
the present time. Hope is rooted in the knowledge that God loves us and is always faithful to us, protecting us and helping us.
For Christians, the virtue of hope leads us to look forward with confidence to the day when
we will live forever with God in heaven.
“Be heralds of hope.
Be messengers of joy.
Be true workers for justice.”
Pope John Paul II

Math Corner Parents are strongly encouraged to check out
www.mathies.ca This new site is designed for
Ontario K-12 students and parents. The website is full of fun and exciting games that support the math your children will be doing directly in
the classroom and is aligned with the Ontario
Curriculum. Besides the games, there are also
learning tools, activities and other supports that
will help parents help their children foster a
deeper understanding and love for math. Check
it out!!
Math Card Game
Here is twist on the traditional game of “war” that can
be used to have children practice facts in a fun way.
As in war, deal each player half the deck of cards. Each
player then turns face up their top two cards. Based
upon the age and level, they will either have to add or
multiply the two cards. Largest sum or product wins.
When playing the game, encourage the use of math lan-
guage. EG “The product of 4 and 6 is 24 and is greater
than 16, the product of 8 and 2” Or “ 12 is the sum of 6
and 6 and is less than the sum of 10 and 9”. There are so
many variations to add to the game. Make the red cards
negative and the black cards positive. Use the two cards
dealt to make a fraction. The person with the fraction
closer to 0 wins. Deal three cards, and the first two and
multiply the sum by the third card
“Prepare the Way of the Lord” The Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board invites you and your family to join us for a special Mass on the third Sunday of Advent: When: Sunday, December 15th 11:00AM
