Catholic Education - Kindergarten Registration Working

Together to Transform Our World: The Simcoe Muskoka

Catholic District School Board is kicking-off a registration

campaign for its elementary and high schools with radio,

newspaper and social media advertisements beginning January

30th

.We believe there is something truly unique and special about

learning that is rooted in faith and spiritual growth. It is a blessing

that the youngest members of our parish have the opportunity to

grow in spirit and faith within a Catholic school community. Our

Catholic schools offer distinct faith-filled learning experiences,

with a combined focus on academic, spiritual, social and emotional

growth. Together, our Catholic schools and our parish community

will guide children in their ongoing growth in faith. To help

parents and students get ready for Kindergarten, our board is

offering welcome bags which contain information to help make the

transition to school a little bit easier. We encourage parents who

are looking to register their child for Kindergarten to drop by their

local Catholic school to pick up their bag. Our Catholic high

schools also have information packages for students going into

Grade 9. Registration information can also be found on our

website at www.smcdsb.on.ca.

Reflection: THIS IS MY CWL

It is composed of people like me.

We make it what it is.

It will be friendly, if I am.

Its events will be filled, if I help fill them.

It will do great work, if I work.

It will make many generous gifts to many causes,

if I am a generous giver.

It will bring other people into its spiritual life and fellowship,

if I bring them.

It will be a CWL of loyalty and love, of fearlessness and faith, and

a CWL with a noble spirit,

if I, who make it what it is, am filled with these.

Therefore, with the help of God, I shall dedicate myself

to the task of being all the things that I want my CWL to be!

Gospel Matthew 5.13-16 www.loyolapress.com

Jesus teaches that his disciples are to be the salt of the earth and the

light of the world.

Gospel Reflection

Following upon the teaching of the Beatitudes, Jesus uses the now

familiar metaphors of salt and light to describe the life of

discipleship. We take salt and light for granted in our society, but

these commodities were more precious in ancient cultures. Just as

now, salt was used in Jesus' time for flavoring, as a preservative,

and as a healing agent. Similarly, the widespread use of electricity

in the modern world makes us less aware of the value and

importance of light in our lives.

Still, our familiarity with this passage from Matthew's Gospel

speaks well to the abiding power of the imagery that Jesus

presented. Jesus' call to be salt for the earth and light for the world

powerfully states our mission as Church and as Christians. Our

commitment to social justice flows from the exhortation that Jesus

gives us in today's Gospel. Some of the activities that this

commitment leads us to are given more concrete expression as the

Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. When we feed the hungry,

clothe the naked, console those who mourn, and so on, we show

ourselves to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world.

When we do these things with the community of faith, the Church,

we are indeed acting as “a city set on a mountain” that cannot be

hidden!
