The Best Defense

Revelation 12.7-12

“The best offense is a good defense.”

Is Christianity offensive or defensive in nature?

“They overcame him …” (Revelation 12.7-12; esp. v11)

… by the blood of the Lamb .

… by the word of their testimony .

… by not loving their lives to the death.

The Battle Is the Lord’s!

David and Goliath is a classic, beloved Old Testament event.

David has no physical armor or protection – he uses unusual weapons.

He knows the battle is the Lord’s. (1 Samuel 17.26, 34-37, 40, 45-50)

Slaying modern day giants

Today, we fight against the army of Satan.

We have no physical armor or protection – we, too, use unusual weapons.

We can overcome Satan with the blood , our testimony , and sacrifice .

The requirement is not so much for self -discipline as for self -  denial .

What about us?

True discipleship demands self -denial.

We must quit praying for painless growth!

We must give God permission to do as He pleases!

Count the cost before making a commitment .

God takes our commitments seriously!

We must give Him our heart , and take up His cross.

Are we willing to let the Lord strip whatever He

needs to remove?
