The Beach Road camp sits on reclaimed land and was originally just next to the sea. Additional land reclamation has since extended the coastline much farther out. In preserving the project
site’s historical past, over 50 per cent of the old Beach Road camp’s existing facade has been retained to form part of the new development. This includes the Drill Hall, the birthplace of the Singapore
Armed Forces, which will also maintain its verandah spaces. Archways are also reinstated to form part of a grand entrance lobby at one of the four conservation buildings.
Ofce TowerThe 34-storey ofce tower has secured 96 per cent occupancy with “A-list” tenants such as Facebook, Expedia and Lego
Conservation of heritage buildingsThe former Beach Road military camp began as the headquarters of the Singapore Volunteer Corps in the 1930s and later doubled as the headquarters of the Singapore Military Forces, which was set up in 1954. After Singapore gained independence, some of the country's rst military units were based here. The camp was closed in 2000 and its three buildings (blocks 1, 9 and 14) were gazetted for conservation on Oct 9, 2002, along with an adjacent building that was previously the SAF Non-Commissioned Ofcers’ (NCO) Club.

The microclimatic canopyThe lightweight, 280m-long canopy oats across the entire development to lter sunlight and solar glare and channel breezes into the public spaces. The result is a comfortable and cool environment all year round. At the same time, lower points of the canopy create valleys where rainwater can be collected and recycled for irrigating South Beach’s lush garden landscape.

Rainwater harvesting
Rainwater collected from the towers and the canopy is funnelled to a harvesting tank underground
Rainwater is pumped back up to three holding tanks toirrigate plants and trees in sky gardens and tower planters
This system of harvesting rainwater helps South Beach save 174,000 cu m of water annually
