Class updates: 6-10-13: Don and Marilyn were in Kansas the week of June 10th to celebrate Marilyn's mother's 94th birthday. On Tuesday Don Swanson, Phil Godina, and Kent Ewing played golf at Carey Park. Lets just say that Godina was the medalist and leave it at that. Wednesday evening Kent & Marti Ewing hosted a cookout for Don and Marilyn Swanson & Don and Phyllis Parker. Beer, Brauts, Burgers and of course many stories and jokes were enjoyed by all. To contact Kent Ewing: [email protected] - 620-662-9961 Don Swanson: [email protected] - 623-221-9386 or Don Parker: 620-665-7146 ~~

60th Anniversary of Channel 12

When Channel 12 first went on the air on July 1, 1953, the news looked very different than it does today. Reporters from existing news organizations like radio and newspapers were the first faces that greeted viewers on black and white TV. For example, Dick Cornish, father of KWCH anchor Roger Cornish, had been working at a Hutchinson radio station in the 1950's. He applied for a job at Channel 12 and was hired as a staff announcer. "There were no TV people to hire, obviously, so you hired from radio. It was the only broadcasting there was at the time," said Roger Cornish. "If I have my story right, he was on the staff the day they went on the air." (Roger is son of Dick Cornish) See full article for more & more access to Lots more pictures! http://articles.kwch.com/2013-02-14/video-tape_37124528 ~~ Photos: 60th Anniversary of KWCH (this & more)

KTVH was established as the first Television station in Hutchinson, Kansas, which is still our city of license. KTVH was originally owned by a group of insightful business men & women from Hutchinson, who formed

Hutchinson TV, Inc. The members were John P. Harris who

owned the Hutchinson New-Herald and some Radio stations. Bess Wyse Rickard who owned KWBW-Radio in Hutchinson, W.D.P. Carey who was an attorney & owned Carey Salt Company, located in Hutchinson. Other members of the Company were Howard Carey, Wesley Brown, Jack Child, L.T. Child, James Davis, Ray Dillon who owned Dillon’s Grocery Stores, Howard Peterson who later became the General Manager of KTVH, G.C. Waddell, Hap Stevens & R.J. Langenwalter. The Federal Government allocated only one new TV station to Kansas, and that was given to the

Hutchinson area.
