SICBA’s Annual Awards Dinner was a lot of fun and a great time to recognize those who have put time and effort into making sure SICBA is successful in every way possible. The atmosphere was great, the camaraderie between members was superb and the food was excellent. If you missed this one, you missed a great time and the opportunity to appreciate all our members and

recognize the achievements of many. The evening started with our customary networking opportunity, a free photo booth and the opportunity to look through Project of the Year that had been submitted for competition ending in 2018. Everyone was in a very festive mood and seemed to have a great time. Our speaker for the evening was Rebecca Pierce Murray who gave a very inspiring presentation and remembered some of the things SICBA has done over the years. Then we started our Awards Presentations. Rookie of the Year went to Robert Desmarais of Sound Cedar; Recruiter of the Year went to Bob Johnson of Ward – Johnson Masonry and Tile; Volunteer of the Year went to both Lisa Munson of No. 7 Development and Roy Mureno of Blade Chevrolet; Chairperson of the Year went to Kim Piazza of John Piazza Jr. Construction and Remodeling, Inc; Contractor Sponsor of the Year went to both AAA Kartak Glass and Closet and John Piazza Jr.

Construction and Remodeling, Inc; Supplier/Services Sponsor of the Year went to Ben Sousa of Craft Stove of Western WA; Rookie Sponsor of the year went to Generac Power Systems Inc and Corporate Sponsor of the Year went to Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery. Congratulations and thank you to all who won these awards. We had three scholarship recipients attending and they were able to tell us a little about what their plans are for the future. We did our normal drawings and Frog Construction is the winner of the retention drawing and gets a meal at the next SICBA event in Oak Harbor (click here). The Membership Bonus Drawing for $825 would have gone to Anderson Electric if they had been present. but since they weren’t, the pot goes to $875 in June. Patrick Hayes was the happy winner of the 50/50 drawing and took home $115. We then gave the awards for Project of the Year. Spane Buildings won two Accessory Building Categories and Commercial New Construction; John Piazza Construction and Remodeling Inc won two SFR Categories; BYK Construction won Multi-Family 10 Units and More and the overall Project of the Year Winner was John Piazza Jr. Construction and Remodeling for the home in Stanwood. Our final awards for the evening were for Builder of the Year and Associate of the Year. Those went to Jay Roberts of Cascade Custom Homes & Design and Dee Dee Swartz of Olympus Containers/Triple A Trailers. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL!!!

wonderful, beautiful homes on the tour. Come help with your ideas on the Home Tour Committee, our next meeting is 3:00pm, June 20

Upcoming Elections Numerous positions are up for election this year in the various cities in both counties. Most are uncontested but there are a few that are.

Those contested races are: Langley – 1 council position Oak Harbor – Mayor and 2 council positions 40th Legislative District Anacortes – 4 council positions Burlington – Mayor Hamilton – Mayor and 3 council positions Mount Vernon – Mayor and 1 council position Sedro Woolley – Mayor and 3 council positions

There are numerous other positions that are up for election and are contested for the different school districts, fire districts, etc. the ones I have listed above are the ones that set policy and are the legislative leaders in the various communities who are being challenged this time around.

There is an election for 40th District Senator as a result of Senator Ranker resigning and Sen Lovelett being appointed. This is per state statute requiring the appointee to run for election during the next official election. That person will finish the current term and will run for election during the next scheduled cycle.

SPONSORSHIPS ARE NOW AVAILABLE FOR THE 2019 PEER TO PIER CRUISE!! If you didn’t qualify or just didn’t get to go on the cruise last year, we are putting plans together for our cruise this year. If you would like a captive audience for about 3 hours for them to see your wares and hear your name as a sponsor, now is your chance to jump in and sponsor for next year’s event. It is always a lot of fun!!! In order for members to get to go on the cruise, they have to be a new member that joined the association after the 2018 cruise or they have to recruit a new member company to be eligible for a ticket. This is all done through sponsorships and through the SICBA Membership Committee. If you are interested, give Jonathan a call at (360) 757-6916 or email him at [email protected].
