  • We were engaged by Rio Tinto to remove the post tension cables on their clean coal silos & replace them with carbon fibre strips. These cables had reached the end of their useful life and some were failing.

This work was carried out by specially designed mast-climbers, which were able to access the entire face of the silo. The inside faces of the silos were accessed via swing stages.

The post tension cables were then replaced with BASF M-Brace carbon fibre laminate strips and fabrics. This was carried out in a staged sequence so that the silos did not experience any undue stresses during the works.

Along with this work, concrete spalling and crack repairs were carried out utilising hydro demolition, which is a more cost and time efficient method of demolition on a structure of this size.

$250kFollowing the construction of a second bridge over the flood plane at Gundagai to improve traffic flow, the RTA concentrated their efforts on the refurbishment of the existing 25 year old bridge.

The scope of works included the removal and repairs to the exiting steel barriers and repairs to the concrete spalling to the parapets of this 1.2km long structure.

The RTAs own work crews took on the task of repairing the barriers and engaged Buildcorp Asset

Solutions to complete the concrete repairs to the parapet walls and kerbs. Some 220square metres of concrete repair was undertaken in a little under three weeks. Due to the size and overall quantity of repair work required, hydro demolition was utilised to remove the spalled areas. Shotpatch 20S by BASF Construction Chemcals was the chosen repair product which was spray applied using one of pneumatic dry-mix shotcrete pumps.

A great synergy was maintained with the RTA crews throughout this 4 week contract as the hydro was
