OKLAHOMA JEWISH FILM FESTIVALHIGHLIGHTS!

The Israel Quilters Association, in celebration of its 20thanniversary in 2012, extended an invitation to artists world-wideto attend the conference and exhibit their quilted entries. Thetextile exhibit, titled The Many Faces of Jerusalem, opened atBrigham Young University campus on the Mount of Olives, andis coming to the Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art in October2014. The Quilters chose Jerusalem for its international,multicultural character. The Capital of Israel,Jerusalem is holy to Jews, Christians and Muslims.Jerusalem residents today are a broad representation ofethnicity and religion, l iving together among its richhistory. The exhibited quilts are the texti les of dream,hope and memory, resulting in a multicultural feast forthe eyes.

Fans of both fine art photography and Star Trek legend will bethrilled with this acclaimed photographic exhibition of LeonardNimoy Secret Selves. Nimoy, an accomplished photographer,mastered his alternate identity as the famed Mr. Spock.Nurturing his artistic interest in hidden identities, volunteersubjects were invited for photography sessions to reveal theirsecret selves, whether by costume, pose, or attitude. Theresulting portraits are the Secret Selves exhibit.

Volunteer Opportunities

Docents A comprehensive training program prepares each docent to leadtours for both school groups and general audiences. Throughoutthe year, tours are scheduled at various times during the week

and on Sundays, providing a flexible schedule for volunteers. Docents take groups through exhibits related to the Holocaust,Jewish History and Culture, and the temporary art exhibits. Anyone wishing to become a docent should contact DocentChairman Stan Shapiro, Executive Director Drew Diamond,or Volunteer Coordinator Cathey Wilson at918.492.1818. Those interested wil l be given aninformation manual regarding the Holocaust and JewishHistory and Culture, and wil l need to be available toshadow docents leading tours and to attend the artexhi bi t orientations with Dr. York, and monthlymeetings of the Committee of Docents. Front Desk Volunteers Consider volunteering to welcome and direct visitors to theMuseum, answer phones and visitor inquiries. In addition, frontdesk volunteers help process admission and merchandise salesand assist staff with special events. Front desk shifts arenormally three hours in length, and a variety of weekday orSunday hours are available to volunteers, in rotation.

Volunteers perform numerous duties essential to thesuccess of the Museum, helping avoid salary and laborcosts often associated with day-to-day activities andexhibit installation. Training is provided to volunteersfor areas throughout the Museum.
