BENEFITS
Save time by interactively modifying simulation data
Faster and more effi cient design and preparation of reservoir simulation models
Stay focused on recovery process rather than keyword syntax
Enhance user productivity through an interactive and easy-to-use interface
Increase data integration and workfl ow management using Builder and Results
Automatically quality checks data as it’s entered and converts data in different units
Through the use of 2D and 3D visualization or keyword input, users are able to easily prepare reservoir simulationmodels. Reservoir Engineers will realize immediate time savings from effectively navigating the often complex processof preparing reservoir simulation models. Builder™ makes reservoir simulation more accessible to all organizations, even those with little previous experience in modelling.
Builder, a Windows† based application, enables engineers to create simulation input fi les for all CMG reservoirsimulators – IMEX™, GEM™, STARS™. Builder covers all areas of data input, including creating and importing grids and grid properties, locating wells, importing well production data, importing or creating fl uid models, rock-fl uidproperties, and initial conditions. Builder contains a number of tools for data manipulation, creating tables fromcorrelations, and data checking. It allows engineers to visualize and check data before running a simulation.
To enhance compatibility between 3rd-party reservoir simulators, such as ECLIPSE†, and CMG software, DataImporter imports 3rd-party data and translates into two main processes: direct translation (ECLIPSE keyword for IMEX keyword) and indirect (data taken from number of sources to produce an IMEX keyword).
Builder’s Hydraulic Fracture wizard can be used to easily create different complexities, from simple bi-wings (as shown) to complex networks.
Builder, combined with Results™, provides a framework for data integration and workfl ow management between CMG’s reservoir simulators and the “outside world”. Optimize the reservoir simulation model through accurate data importation from third-party geological modelling programs, such as Petrel†, GOCAD†, RMS†
& EarthVision†. Geological data accepted by Builder includes simulation grids, reservoir properties, fault surfaces and well trajectories, including support for the industry standard RESCUE static model data exchange format.
HYDRAULIC FRACTURING
Builder provides more accurate modelling of hydraulically fractured wells in tight single porosity and naturallyfractured (e.g. shale gas) reservoirs using the ‘fractured well LGR wizard’. This wizard will automatically and correctly adjust values of fracture permeability and the non-Darcy fl ow coeffi cient to match transient,non-Darcy fl ow, as if the model had actual propped fractured dimensions.
MICROSEISMIC
Users are able to import microseismic data into Builder to determine, directly and indirectly, the size and theextent of the stimulated reservoir volume (SRV). The SRV can be modelled in IMEX or GEM with locally refi ned, logarithmically spaced, dual permeability grids that accurately match both early time and late timeproduction data.

2013 NEWFEATURES
Polymer process wizard shows effect of velocity and salinity on polymer viscosity, including temperature dependency for STARS datasets
Easily vary propped and natural fracture properties as half length, permeability and width with the hydraulic fracture wizard
Polygon manager provides increased fl exibility for creating sectors, modifying properties and selecting wells
Easily defi ne polygons on a reservoir in 2D aerial view
Microseismic data from a hydraulic fracturing treatment is imported into Builder and used to create a stimulated reservoir volume.
ADVANCED PROCESSES
Builder includes workfl ow wizards to assist users in creating advanced processes simulations. The wizards are designed for creating well locations for single-pattern or multiple repeated pattern fl ooding models, locally refi ned grids (LGR) surrounding wells to model transient, non-Darcy fl ow through propped fractures, and reactions for modelling in situ combustion, Alkaline-Surfactant-Polymer (ASP) fl ooding, foamy heavy oil production, and fi nes migration.
POLYGONS
Builder now includes a 2D polygon manager to provide an easy way to select a range of grid blocks in the 2D aerial view. By simply using the mouse, engineers can create virtually any boundary, based on where the mouse is clicked. Any block within the boundary or crossing the boundary, will be included. Engineers will use the polygon manager to create sectors or property modifi cations and apply them to the defi ned polygons.
