9th Calvary Regiment The regiment was organized on
September 21, 1866 in New Orleans The men enlisted received $13 per
month, plus rooming, boarding, and clothing
The men were enlisted for five years. The horses that they got came from St.
Louis, Missouri
Spanish American war (9th) In 1898, the 9th regiment served in the
Battle of Las Guasimas and the Battle of San Juan Hill
They rode alongside Roosevelt’s Rough Riders
In 1899 and in 1904 the 9th cavalry joined with other cavalry and infantry formed a park system
