current only via a properly installed socket with earthing.▶ The protective conductor system of the domestic electrical

with food and accessible drain systems.▶ If the fridge/freezer is empty for an extended period of time,

switch off the appliance, defrost it, clean it and leave thedoor open to prevent the formation of mould.

Selecting the installation locationFollow these instructions when in-stalling your appliance.

¡ Transport purchased food in acool bag and place in the appli-ance quickly.

¡ Allow warm food and drinks tocool down before placing them inthe appliance.

¡ Thaw frozen food in the refriger-ator compartment to utilise the lowtemperature of the food.The air in the appliance does notwarm up so intensely.The appliance must cool less fre-quently.

¡ Always leave some spacebetween the food and to the backpanel.

¡ Pack the food airtight.The air can circulate and the airhumidity remains constant.

¡ Defrost the freezer compartmentregularly.A frost-free freezer compartment ispower-saving and cools the frozenfood optimally.

¡ Only open the freezer compart-ment door briefly and then care-fully close it.A closed freezer compartmentdoor protects the freezer compart-ment against severe icing.

Criteria for the installationlocationFollow these instructions when in-stalling your appliance.

WARNINGRisk of explosion!If the appliance is in a space that istoo small, a leak in the refrigerationcircuit may result in a flammable mix-ture of gas and air.▶ Only install the appliance in a

Switching on the appliance1. Press .a The appliance begins to cool.2. Switch off the warning signal with

Operating tips¡ Once you have switched on the

appliance, the set temperature isonly reached after several hours.Do not put in any food in the appli-ance until the temperature isreached.

¡ The front panels of the housing aretemporarily heated slightly. Thisprevents condensation in the areaof the door seal.

¡ When you close the door of thefreezer compartment, a vacuummay be created and you may notbe able to open the freezer dooragain immediately. Wait a momentuntil the vacuum is offset.

¡ The refrigeration system maycause several areas of the freezershelves to frost quickly. The frosthas no effect on the function or theenergy consumption of the appli-ance. If frost or ice thicker than5 mm has formed on the entiresurface of the freezer shelf, the ap-pliance must be defrosted.

Setting the temperatureAfter you have switched on the appli-ance, you can set the temperature.

Setting the freezer compartmenttemperature▶ Use a coin to set the temperature

at the temperature controller.The higher the number, the lowerthe temperature.The middle setting is recommen-ded by the factory.

Super freezingSuper freezing cools the freezer com-partment as cold as possible. Thisfreezes food quickly right through tothe centre.Switch off Super freezing four tosix hours before placing food weigh-ing 2 kg or more into the freezercompartment.In order to utilise the freezer capacity,use Super freezing. → "Prerequisites for freezing capa-city", Page 16Note: When Super freezing isswitched on, increased noise mayoccur.

CAUTIONRisk of harm to health!During the thawing process, bacteriamay develop and spoil the frozenfood.▶ Do not refreeze food after it has

been defrosted or started to de-frost.

▶ Refreeze food only after cooking.▶ The frozen items should no longer

be stored for the maximum stor-age period.

The temperature alarm can beswitched on without risk to the frozenfood in the following cases:¡ The appliance is switched on.¡ When large quantities of fresh food

are put in.¡ The freezer compartment door is

open for too long.

Freezer compartmentYou can store frozen food, freezefood and make ice cubes in thefreezer compartment.The temperature can be set from set-ting 1 to setting 7.Long-term storage of food should beat –18 °C or lower.The freezer compartment can beused to store perishable food long-term. The low temperatures slowdown or stop the spoilage.The time between putting fresh food inthe freezer compartment and it freezingsolid depends on various factors:¡ Set temperature¡ Food (size and type)¡ Quantity and type of storage¡ Quantity and type of food already

stored

Freezing capacityThe maximum freezing capacity indic-ates the quantity of food that can befrozen right through to the centrewithin a specific period of time.Information on the maximum freezingcapacity can be found on the ratingplate. → Fig.  1 / 4

Prerequisites for freezing capacity1. Approx. 24 hours before placing

fresh food in the appliance, switchon Super freezing. → "Switching on Super freezing",Page 15

2. Fill the rear area of the top com-partment with food first. This iswhere the food freezes mostquickly.

3. If the rear area of the top compart-ment does not have enoughspace, store the remaining quantityin the compartment below.

Fully utilising the freezercompartment volumeLearn how to store the maximumamount of frozen food in the freezercompartment.1. Remove all fittings. → Page 202. Store food directly on the shelves

and on the floor of the freezercompartment.

Tips for buying frozen foodFollow the tips when you are buyingfrozen food.¡ Check the packaging is not dam-

aged.¡ Check the best-before date.¡ The temperature in the supermar-

ket freezer must be –18 °C orlower.

¡ Do not interrupt the deep-freezechain. If possible, transport frozenfood in a cool bag and quicklyplace it in the freezer compart-ment.

Tips for storing food in thefreezer compartmentFollow the tips if you are storing foodin the freezer compartment.¡ To quickly and gently freeze larger

quantities of fresh food, place thisin the top frozen food container.

¡ Place the food over the whole areaof the compartments or the frozenfood containers.

¡ Do not bring food which is to befrozen into contact with frozenfood.If necessary, redistribute frozenfood in the freezer compartment.

¡ To ensure that the air can circulatefreely in the appliance, push thefrozen food containers in as far asthey will go.

Tips for freezing fresh foodFollow the tips when you freeze freshfood.¡ Freeze fresh and undamaged food

only.¡ Cooked, roasted or baked food is

more suitable for consumptionthan food that can be eaten raw.

¡ In order to retain the nutritionalvalue, flavour and colour, youshould prepare certain food forfreezing.– Vegetables: Wash, chop up,

blanch.– Fruit: Wash, pit and perhaps

peel, possibly add sugar orascorbic acid solution.

Defrosting in the freezer com-partmentAs the frozen food must not startthawing, the freezer compartmentdoes not defrost automatically. Alayer of hoarfrost in the freezer com-partment impairs refrigeration of thefrozen food and increases powerconsumption.
