What does 300W mean?

You see labels like this on electrical devices at home.

The power tells you how much energy the device uses in one second.

W stands for watts. The number is the power of the device.

1 Watt = 1 Joule of energy per secondSo a 9W light bulb has a power of 9W.

It uses 9 Joules of energy each second when it is switched on.

Energy = Power x Time
