BUILDING STRONG LIBRARIES ASSOCIATIONS IN FRENCH SPEAKING COUNTRIES IN AFRICA (CENTRAL AND WEST AFRICA)

Cameroon, Gabon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tchad, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Benin, Mali, Madagascar

Building Strong Library Associations is a comprehensive programme of-fering a strategic and coordinated approach to capacity building and sus-tainability of library associations. The programme benefits associations, libraries, and their communities. The programme is delivered by the Action for Development through Li-braries (ALP) programme. This project will strengthen the ability of Library and Information Associ-ations in French speaking Africa to develop sustainable mechanisms to support information frameworks and initiatives that encourage develop-ment, increase visibility and impact in their countries and IFLA. Specifically, it aims to :

Establish a network of library associations in French speaking countries in Africa

Strengthen the capacity of library associations in French speaking countries in Africa

Empower library leaders with innovative skills and practices Promote leadership in networking and advocacy Develop action plans and priorities Create training pools for capacity building activities Identify and create sustainable partnerships Produce efficient library leaders Increase visibility of IFLA’s and AFLIA’s activities Promote good governance among library associations

associations in French speaking countries in Africa

Increase the visibility of African French speaking countries within

the continent and the world

Meet the expectations of international sponsors

Association Library development

Increase participation at international events concerning professional

library associations

Increase the perception of libraries and library associations in society

Increase the visibility of IFLA and AFLIA in the selected countries

The project goals and expected outcomes are as follows: Goal 1: Strengthen library associations across all French Speaking Africa

Goal 2: Promote high standards of provision and delivery of library and in-formation services

Goal 3: Encourage widespread understanding of the value of good library & information services
