    BRYAN ADAMS

    GET UP TOUR 2016

    Sheffield Motorpoint Arena

    Saturday 15th May 2016

Bryan Adams has been good to his British fans over the years probably as the Canadian

considers this his second home. As I only bought my tickets a few days before the show we found

ourselves at the back of the arena on the second tier, however, we were centre-stage and had a

completely uninterrupted view of the stage. A large video screen backdrop and two smaller screens

to either side of the stage also meant that the band did not appear too far away. The sound was

excellent with a perfect mix and Mickey Currys drums providing a perfect back beat to the electric

Adams then looked for a female dancer in audience to accompany him through ‘If Ya Wanna

Be Bad Ya Gotta Be Good. He found a young, pig-tailed girl called Yasmine who obliged and

strutted her stuff but was somewhat upstaged by a large, pot-bellied Yorkshire man, sat just behind

her, who stripped off similar to John Goodman in ‘Coyote Ugly. The latter was hilarious.

Adams spent several minutes comically discussing how the song ‘Back To You (also co-

written with Eliot Kennedy) was written for a blockbuster movie but never used.

One of my personal favourite songs ‘Somebody was a full-blooded band version before an

acoustic rendition of ‘Ill Always Be Right There. The emotive ‘Please Forgive Me and the

breathtaking ‘Cuts Like A Knife seem to do the impossible and elevate the show to even higher levels. 18 Til I Die and ‘The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me with its shockingly,

accompanying poor video brought the main set to a conclusion. After twenty-two songs the band left

the stage to a rapturous ovation. For most artists that we had been sufficient, but not Bryan Adams

who returned for an unprecedented nine-song encore beginning with arguably the strongest song

from ‘Get Up, ‘Brand New Day followed by the Eddie Cochran and Elvis covers ‘Cmon

Everybody and ‘All Shook Up respectively. The band left for the final time leaving Adams to

perform the remainder of the set acoustically by himself. I say by himself, however, the latter was

strictly not true as he had a backing choir ten-thousand strong notably on ‘Straight From The Heart.

The highlight of the evening for me personally came after Adams had been on stage over two

hours and a simply stunning, acoustic and emotional version of ‘Into The Fire from the criminally

overlooked 1987 album of the same name. This version was note-perfect and an object lesson to

these wannabe stars on the many reality TV shows of today.
