County Schools Open Evaluation Program

Roland Barnett, son of Mr. and Mrs Clyde ftarnett, Mt. Vernon, has been appointed temporary mall carrier for the newly established Rural Route 2 wlhch will service families in northeastern and northern Rockcastle County, according to an announcement Tuesday by James Smith, postmaster at Mt. Vernon.

The new route, with service beginning Mar. 1. is expected to serve about 518 families and will eliminate two post offices--at Three Links in Rockcastle and Eglon in Jackson County. The route covers about 88 miles.

Mr. Bamett will hold the temporary appointment until the Post Office Department calls an examination to make the position permanent. When that will be has not been announced.

Postmaster Smith reported Barnett will visit each family along the route shortly to see who wants to get mail on the new route and to advise patrons on mail box placement. Some residents will have a choice of routes.

Smith said all types of postal taken over service will be available on the manager MW route, WRVK at
