Nickell is now charged with theft by unlawful taking of property valued at more than $500 – a felony for which El- liott County Sheriff’s Depart- ment officials arrested Nickell at his home. Nickell would have com- pleted his church sentence – worked out by his attorney, Wil- hoit, Assistant Elliott County Attorney Reid Glass, the case prosecutor and Sheriff Jimmy Stephens – on Feb. 17. Glass noted in the Feb. 1 edition of The Ashland Daily Independent that he and others had explored the possibility of public humiliation in hopes of stemming a recent outbreak of thefts throughout the county.
