SQ NEWS… ALL ABOUT US ISSUE 01-SUMMER 2014

A student publication created at Brooklyn Collegiate – 2021 Bergen Street, Brooklyn, NY, 11233

I visited Ms. Ramos’ first period ELA class, where she is teaching Summer Quest ELA Enrichment to the mostly rising 9th graders. Ms. Ramos discussed with me how she was teaching the class to write editorial essays. She was teaching the structure of an editorial essay so students can write an editorial essay on whether Junk Food should be sold in schools. I also interviewed Keyanna, a student in the class, who explained that by learning about an editorial essay, they will understand how to write and express themselves about an issue with evidence. Keeping the class fun, Ms. Ramos has a ticket system in which she rewards students weekly for getting their work done and staying on task

Ms. Alleyne’s class is literally taking it way back to Ancient Egypt with the activities.

*Acoustic poems are poems where you take a word and use the different letters to create a poem.

class I also had
