Looking Around Brook Meadows
What wonderful signs of spring and progress as one strolls through the neighborhood these days, flowers popping up, trees budding out and lawn mowers buzzing. We certainly hope everyone has noticed the brand new Brook Meadows signs on Glade Road. Our previous metal signs were stolen last year and have been replaced with Cast Stone. Brook Meadows was then sand-blasted and painted on the stone. These signs are here to stay, as they weigh 400 lbs each! Our thanks to Contractor Jim Davis for his research and efforts on this project.
Did you take advantage of the generous offer of Sharon Chan to stop by and enjoy her spring garden? What a delight, 9000 tulip bulbs surrounded by other early blooms, a real treat. Thanks!
Brook Meadows State of the Association
As we come to the close of the fiscal year, the By Laws of the Brook Meadows Homeowners Association requires that the Board of Directors hold the Annual Meeting of the Association on the third Monday in April which this year is the 16th. At this time the Board is obligated to present the state of the Association, the presentation of the budget both current and proposed for the following fiscal year and the election of directors.
Addressing the latter first we will have two directors whose terms will conclude this year and we will be looking for people who are interested in serving a two year term, to meet every other month and to have oversight of the general welfare of the community. Along with the election of directors we will be looking for volunteers to serve on the Architectural, Landscape, Decorating, Social, Communications and Welcoming committees.
We will also address the fiscal health of the Association with a review of the financials of the previous 12 months and the presentation for Association approval of the fiscal budget for the 2012/13 year.
As to the state of the Association in the last couple of years we generally address such things as the theft of our signs, vandalism of cars and such. However this year will be different. Because of legislation that has been enacted in Austin, there has been a series of regulations and laws put in place as to the governances and operations of homeowners associations in the state of Texas. While there has been a series of laws put in place, most do not apply to the type of association that Brook Meadows is for a variety of reasons, but some do apply. The Board has been working with our lawyers these last few months and we will review the various laws and regulations that do apply to Brook Meadows and the actions that were required by the Board in order to make us compliant with the new legislation.
We will also present the results of our survey regarding the future plans and possible capital improvement expenditures for the Association.
Details as to times and location for the Annual Meeting will be posted on the web site, in the newsletter and posted on signs, we will look forward to seeing you on April 16th.
Happy Spring!
