Release notes for version 2.0.4.2
• Changes from 2.0.4 o Fixed – Contact Import: Error notice displayed for known attributes missing label o Fixed – Order Import: JavaScript block replacing before_body_end section
2.5. Known Issues
1. Newsletter Opt-‐In: Confirmation fails to import due to field being longer than 25
characters.
We are seeing this happen with double opt-‐in because of the subscriberConfirmationLink field. This has been rescheduled for resolution with our July release.
2. Reminder Emails: Reminder email is passed tax-‐exclusive amount when tax-‐inclusive is enabled in Magento.
3. Newsletter Opt-‐In: The extension should disable Magento from sending newsletter subscription confirmation
This is a feature request, not an issue. The Transactional Emails module of the Bronto extension will control what message is sent. If not using the Transactional Emails module or you want to disable any message from being sent, you can use a third-‐party extension to disable Magento’s newsletter subscription confirmation.
4. Newsletter Opt-‐In: Checkbox Label Text throws javascript error if text contains a single quote.
This is scheduled to be resolved with the August release.
5. Reminder Emails: Menu Item not showing if admin role not set to have access to all. This is scheduled to be resolved with the August release. 6. Permission Checker: Times out on page load. This is scheduled to be resolved with the August release. 7. Magento email templates are being deleted after Import Existing Templates is clicked. This is scheduled to be resolved in our 2.1.0 release. This can, however, be fixed by running the
©2012-‐-‐-‐2013 Bronto Software Inc. All rights reserved. 9
following query in MySql: UPDATE core_email_template SET bronto_message_id = NULL, bronto_message_name = NULL;
8. Reminder Emails: Reminder emails will only be sent once per rule per quote
Scenario: You have three rules configured for an abandonment series. A customer abandons and makes their way through the series, receiving all three emails. They come back at a later date, clear their cart, add new items, and abandon the new cart. The quote ID for a registered user will remain the same and they will not receive any of the three messages this second time around. -‐-‐-‐ We will revisit this in a future release.
9. Contact Import: Date attributes missing values will import as current date
10. Reminder Emails: Product subtotal variable not capturing value
11. Order Import: Configurable products not capturing parent category Instead, it is currently capturing the corresponding Simple product’s category. This will be addressed in the August release.

If this setting is enabled, then the VERBOSE LOG OUTPUT setting will become visible.
• Verbose Log Output
©2012-‐-‐-‐2013 Bronto Software Inc. All rights reserved.
Enable this setting to log each API call to the logs, in addition to normal log output. This setting only becomes visible if the DEBUG setting is enabled. This setting is disabled by default.
• Test Mode
Enable this setting to send email to existing contacts with “type=test.” This will cause the extension to send email only to @bronto email accounts. Please visit the API documentation for more information on this email type.
• Error Notices
Enable this setting to show warnings/errors as site notices. Note that site notices may be visible to the end-‐-‐-‐user on the Magento front-‐-‐-‐end. This setting is disabled by default.
3.2.3. Contact Import Contact Import enables contact information to be imported into Bronto from the Magento eCommerce platform. The import process is executed on a regular schedule utilizing the Magento cron scheduler. Users may map contact fields to the appropriate fields in Bronto and may use the extension to create new fields in Bronto.
Note that fields can also be created using the Bronto interface, directly. The extension utilizes the API to create contact fields from the extension, when the user creates new fields within the extension itself.
3.2.3.1. Setup To configure Contact Import, navigate to SYSTEM > CONFIGURATION > BRONTO > CONTACT IMPORT:
©2012-‐-‐-‐2013 Bronto Software Inc. All rights reserved.

There are three settings to configure how often contacts are imported from Magento into Bronto, at what time to start the import process, and how many Customer contact records to process upon each run:
• Frequency
This setting configures how often to run the import process via cron. This can be set to minute intervals, hourly, or daily. The default setting is daily.
o Minute Intervals
May be set to 5, 10, 15, 20, or 30 minutes. Be careful to set this to a value larger than your cron.php launch period. See the Magento documentation for configuring cron.
o Hourly
When using hourly, configure the minute of the hour to start each run on.
o Daily
No additional configuration required.
• Start Time
This setting configured when to start the import. The default setting is “00:00:00.”
• Limit
The total number of Customer contact records to process on each cron run. The default setting is “250.”
Customer Attributes There are thirteen Magento customer attributes that can be mapped to any field within the Bronto platform. Fields created directly within the Bronto platform via the Bronto user interface will show up in the extension, automatically.
©2012-‐-‐-‐2013 Bronto Software Inc. All rights reserved.
Additionally, there are nine address attributes that may configured:
For any of these fields, new fields may be created and mapped by selecting “Create new” within the field drop down menu. These fields will be automatically created within the Bronto platform.
Note: Bronto recommends that custom fields are first created in Bronto and then mapped using the extension. This will ensure that each field has the correct field type. By default, using the extension to create the fields will create each field as field type “text”.
There are two additional functions available within Contact Import:
• Reset All Customers
This setting only appears when “Debug” is enabled in the General configuration menu. The extension sets a flag on imported Customers so that duplicate contact records are not created. “Reset All Customers” resets this flag.
• Run Now
Invoking this button will execute the contact import immediately, regardless of the settings configured for the cron scheduler.

3.2.6. Reminder Emails Reminder Emails enables Magento eCommerce platform to send abandoned cart reminder emails with Bronto. This feature is based upon the Magento Automated Email Marketing Reminder module and enables merchants to configure email reminders rules for abandoned shopping carts and wish-‐-‐-‐lists.
In Magento:
• Email Reminder rules are promotional rules built on abandoned shopping cart condition(s). Rules are created in the Promotions > Bronto Reminder Email section. When rules match abandoned carts, reminder emails are sent through Bronto.
• Shopping cart abandonment main criteria is time based: Magento checks on a regular basis if the time elapsed between a customer’s last shopping cart update (without completing a transaction) matches
©2012-‐-‐-‐2013 Bronto Software Inc. All rights reserved.
any abandoned cart time condition. When the time elapsed is matched, Magento checks if additional shopping carts conditions (ex. line item number, total amount, etc.) exist and need to be met. Once all conditions are met, the rule is “matched” and the reminder email is sent.
• Once a rule sends a reminder email to a contact, the same rule will not send another email to the same contact. However, you can create an indefinite number of rules pointing to the same email message.
In Bronto:
• A reminder email must be created in Bronto and include predefined API tags that will contain Magento’s variables (see available variables sections below).
• Reminder emails contain items left in the shopping cart and links to go back to the shopping cart. When a link to the shopping cart is clicked, the user is taken back to Magento so they can complete his/her purchase.
Available variables:
storeURL URL to Store’s homepage
cartURL URL to shopping cart
quoteURL URL to shopping cart when customer has no session
firstName Customer's first name
lastName Customer's last name
totalItems Total items in shopping cart
totalQty Total quantity of items in shopping cart
subTotal Shopping cart subtotal
grandTotal Shopping cart grand total

productImgUrl_# URL to Product's small image Reminder emails messages are stored in Bronto. When defining rules, rules for each store must be associated with messages.
In test mode, you will have to add the contact as “onboarding” in Bronto since contacts are not added to Bronto when in test mode.
In production mode, contacts will be added to Bronto based on their subscription preferences. A contact will be added as “onboarding” if the contact is signed up to receive the newsletter and does not already exist in Bronto. If the contact already exists in Bronto, the contact status will be updated.
3.2.6.1. How to Add Contacts in Bronto
The ADD CONTACT webform allows you to collect email addresses and contact information from your website. To access this for, navigate to CONTACTS > ALL CONTACTS > CREATE CONTACT.
Note: If a person who is on the suppression list attempts to sign-‐-‐-‐up to receive email messages from you via an Add Contacts webform or via direct add, they will not be added as a contact in your account. Additionally, they will not be able to receive marketing emails from you as long as they appear on the suppression list.
3.2.6.2. Setup To configure Reminder Emails, navigate to SYSTEM > CONFIGURATION > BRONTO > REMINDER EMAILS:
©2012-‐-‐-‐2013 Bronto Software Inc. All rights reserved.

Bronto needs the cron enabled and running every 15 minutes or less to be able to send reminder emails. The following is an example of a cron entry:
*/15 * * * * root php /var/www/html/SITENAME/cron.php >
3.2.6.3. Message Configuration Create the desired Abandoned Cart and Wish List messages. Then, follow the steps below to utilize this module.

5. Configure the BRONTO SETTINGS
©2012-‐-‐-‐2013 Bronto Software Inc. All rights reserved.
6. Select SAVE
3.2.6.4. Expired Quotes Expired quotes must be purged so that old shopping carts are not considered active. If shopping carts are active and match any reminder rule, the carts will be considered “abandoned” and email reminder(s) will be sent to the associated contact.
You can define how long a shopping cart remains active in the Magento admin panel at SYSTEM > CONFIG > SALES > CHECKOUT > SHOPPING CART.
Set the Quote Lifetime value in days. This will prevent e.g., 2-‐-‐-‐year-‐-‐-‐old carts to become abandoned carts.

3 important recommendations
• We recommend that you do not test with real contact data in your test environment
• Purge expired quotes
• Define very strict rules (see defining rules section)
While testing the Reminder module, you can remove send rights to the API token if you have active contacts in your account and want to make sure to not send emails (See Bronto Account / API token)
3.2.7. Transactional Emails Transactional Emails enables Magento eCommerce platform to send emails with Bronto. The module reproduces Magento Email Marketing and Transactions and enables merchants to configure email.
Note: Bronto Support must approve all transactional messages before sending. All transactional emails must adhere to Bronto best practices in order to be approved:
They must not have false or misleading headers or subject lines.
The SUBJECT line must only reference the transactional purpose for the email. Marketing
messages in the subject line are not permitted.
The FROM line must be the name of the company or entity who is party to the relationship with the contact.
Transactional information must be presented above or before any marketing content in
the message.
The transactional information must be presented more prominently than any marketing content.
In Magento Transactional messages can be sent out on a triggered basis on the user’s site with triggered API calls.
In Bronto Transactional messages can be sent out through a batched process on Bronto’s side.

3.2.7.1.1. Order-‐-‐-‐Related Emails Order-‐-‐-‐related emails contain information on an order item level. These include the following emails:
• order confirmation for registered user (orderItems) • order confirmation for guest (orderItems) • invoice confirmation for registered user (invoiceItems) • invoice confirmation for guest (invoiceItems) • shipping confirmation for registered user (shipmentItems) • shipping confirmation for guest (shipmentItems) • credit memo confirmation for registered user (creditmemoItems)
©2012-‐-‐-‐2013 Bronto Software Inc. All rights reserved.
• credit memo confirmation for guest (creditmemoItems)
The items listed for each type of email will not necessarily be all of the items on the order; if a customer returns one item out of three ordered, then only the returned item will appear on the credit memo confirmation.
Any gift messages, whether for the entire order or on an order-‐-‐-‐item basis, are also included in this table. Finally, all shipment tracking information is included in this table.
The order items are handled in Bronto similarly to how they are handled for default Magento emails. All of the items are in a variable (listed above) that contains the entire table listing the order items. This is in a template within the file system:
[site root]/app/design/frontend/base/default/template/email/order/items.phtml
This file contains the default styling included in Magento. In order to apply custom styling, you will need to either update this file, or override the template using the client’s custom design package:
[site root]/app/design/frontend/default/[customer client package name]/template/email/order/items.phtml
It is recommended to use a client package in order to maintain the proper upgrade path for Magento. Most Magento installations will have a client package in place already that you can use.
3.2.8. Permission Checker Permission Checker checks the Magento installation filesystem for proper permission on directories and files that will be utilized by the Bronto Extension for Magento.
©2012-‐-‐-‐2013 Bronto Software Inc. All rights reserved.
Upon accessing the permission checker, this feature will automatically be invoked and will display the list of items that violate the specified check parameters. Note that this action could take up to several minutes to complete.
This feature will not disable any extension functionality, but simply displays the results of the check function.
3.2.8.1. Setup
To configure Permission Checker, navigate to SYSTEM > CONFIGURATION > BRONTO > PERMISSION
CHECKER: By default, only permissions for directories and files are checked. The parameters that can be configured within this feature are:
1. Owner
Specify a UNIX username or user id (UID) 2. Group
Specify a UNIX group name or group id (GID) 3. Directories
Specify the octal mode for directories. The default is 755. 4. Files
Specify the octal mode for files. The default is 644. 5. Exclude Patterns
Specify directories and files to exclude.
©2012-‐-‐-‐2013 Bronto Software Inc. All rights reserved.
The results of the Permission Checker feature will be displayed as “errors” within the configuration menu. Any deviation of the filesystem from the specified parameters will be displayed. However, these errors are displayed for informational purposes only and no automatic action is taken as a result of any errors.
3.2.9. Install Verification Install Verification invokes the Bronto API from the Magento installation and attempts to validate round-‐-‐-‐trip communication between the Bronto Extension for Magento and the Bronto Marketing Platform to ensure proper installation and setup.
There is no configuration or setup required for Install Verification other than the configuration of the API token within the General configuration menu for the extension.
To access Permission Checker, navigate to SYSTEM > CONFIGURATION > BRONTO > INSTALL VERIFICATION:
©2012-‐-‐-‐2013 Bronto Software Inc. All rights reserved.
Select VERIFY NOW to invoke install verification. A failed verification will not automatically disable the extension or any functionality. However, a failed verification should be investigated, as it may indicate a serious problem that will prevent the extension from operating properly.
3.2.10. Conflict Checker Conflict Checker checks the Magento installation filesystem potential conflicts between the Bronto Extension for Magento and any other extensions installed on the Magento eCommerce platform.
Upon accessing the conflict checker, this feature will automatically be invoked and will display the XML configurations rewritten more than once.
This feature will not disable any extension functionality, but simply displays the results of the check function.
There is no configuration or setup required for Conflict Checker. To access Conflict Checker, navigate to SYSTEM > CONFIGURATION > BRONTO > CONFLICT CHECKER:
