Last Thursday, Year 1 visited the Rocks area as part of our History Unit “The Past in the Present” Firstly, we visited the Museum of Contemporary Art and our students compared the different features of the buildings in the past with the new building in the present. Once inside we discovered lots of fun and creative artefacts and artworks.

We ate our lunch sitting on the very old Cumberland Place Steps next to Susannah Place.

After our lunch we visited Susannah Place. Did you know that Susannah Place is a terrace of four houses built by Irish immigrants in 1844? For nearly 150 years these small houses with tiny backyards, basement kitchens were home to more than 100 families.

The parents’ bedroom with a baby cot and the older children slept together in the other bedroom.

Our Year 1 Students playing a game of Quoits in the tiny backyard.

We also visited the Corner Shop and we wore aprons to do our shopping.

Our student discovered a world with-out electricity, water, bathrooms and no toilets. Our guide told us that the children did all the chores around the house.

It was very dark inside Susannah house and in the past the windows and candles were used to light up the house.

Our students sitting in the main room of the house called the Living Room.

We were all happy shoppers and had an informative and extremely enjoyable day.

Principal’s Message

Hi everyone, Welcome to our first fortnightly newsletter. The end of term is near and the next two weeks will fly. Can you believe there was no rain at the Stage 3 camp last week? (see photos in this newsletter) The students and teach-ers had a wonderful time at the Broken Bay Sport and Recreation Camp. Big thanks to the teachers for organizing a wonderful camp experience for our Stage 3 students. Years 1, 2, 3 and 4 all attended excursions last week to the Rocks where they considered Sydney’s history. Thanks to all the teachers for their commitment and organization. Every week the teachers attend a communication meeting and a professional learning meeting. Teachers are par-ticipating in training on the national literacy and numeracy progressions this week. During Term 2 teachers will be using the progressions to improve students’ writing and understanding of number. Next week there are parent –teacher interviews being held everyday. It’s not too late to make an appointment with your class teacher. It is a great opportunity to discuss your child’s academic progress and social/ emotional life at school. See booking details in this newsletter. I hope you can join us for Grandparents’ Day next Wednesday morning and the Walkathon at Bronte Beach the following week, finishing off with the Easter Hat Parade on the last day of term. Have a good week! Catherine Ryan Principal

Our Vision Statement

We Look After our World

At Bronte we:

Know many different ways we can look after our world: by refusing plastic bags

and excess packaging, reducing our food waste, reusing objects multiple times,

repurposing objects in creative ways and recycling as much as we can.

Respect our home, school and community environments and acknowledge how

fortunate we are to live near such a beautiful gully and so many gorgeous

beaches in Australia!

Truly appreciate the AWEsome world we live in and are doing our best to look

after our world for future generations.

Bronte Public School Dance Ensemble

On Monday 25 March all members of our dance ensemble will be

required to participate in our In the Spotlight Dance Festival

(ITSDF) video audition. This will take place in the hall from

11.20am till 1.20pm. Please ensure that your child has plain (no

logos) black or navy dance appropriate attire on this occasion.

Bronte will keep our families updated with news regarding our audi-

tion applications. Schools should be notified early Term 2 as to

whether or not we have been successful into the ITSDF perfor-

mance program.

In preparation for school and offsite performances, Bronte Public

has been collaborating with costume designers. This is a sneak

peak of our design and colour scheme for our dance ensemble

work – very exciting!
