iSet™ iSet is an Electro-Hydraulic Safe Setting tool designed to be conveyed on Slickline with batteries or on E-Line in Surface Read Out mode.

iSet uses a state of the art brushless DC Motor to drive a compact high pressure pump and is controlled by using a Sapphire glass touchscreen sensor on the tool body (patented). This removes the requirement to disassemble the tool after each run. After extracting the tool from the well, the iSet is reset by simply opening a bleed screw on the tool body. Within seconds, the tool will automatically reset.

The power source for the iSet is contained within the tool electronics power unit or EPU. The power unit also contains Alkaline batteries in addition to all of the control electronics. Changing control modules will allow use of the setting tool in E-Line operations.

The iSet contains multiple sensors; temperature, pressure, motion, voltage and current. All sensor information is logged to memory which can be retrieved and presented after each operation.

ProTherma PTS - GR/CCL The Kuster ProTherma PTS-Gamma Ray/CCL is a subsurface high temperature tool that consists of five PL sensors — Flow, Pressure, Temperature, Gamma Ray and CCL.

The tool can operate downhole in real-time for up to 6 hours at 300°C (572°F) or 4 hours at 350°C (662°F) in memory. Accurate depth and geologic correlation is achieved using an integral scintillation based gamma ray detector and casing collar locator (CCL).

The ProTherma PTS-GR/CCL provides accurate geologic and tubing/casing depth correlation for pressure, temperature and flow measurements made with the tool.

The electronics section of the tool is encased in a pressure housing, which thermally protects it from the high external temperatures. The pressure transducer senses wellbore pressure through a capillary tube, while the RTD temperature sensor remains exposed to the wellbore to enable for fast and accurate responses to temperature variations in the well bore.

Interchangeable flow meters and impellers allow you to choose the optimum settings for the well conditions.

RADII™ Probe has been delivering the best Cement Bond Logging tool on the market for many years. Probe’s RADII™ platform encompasses multiple patented technologies that have allowed our customers to obtain superior quality cement evaluation logs twice as quickly as the tools provided by our competitors.

Some of the key features of RADII™ that allow such performance are related to how we are able to provide a harmonics free 18KHz transmitter frequency and our patented downhole signal processing techniques.

Typically our cement evaluation suite came in two sizes:

1-11/16in for both standard 177°C (350°F) and high temperature 237°C (460°F)

2-3/4in for both standard 177°C (350°F) and high temperature 237°C (460°F)

Probe has now introduced the 3-1/2in RADII tool with 16 segment cement mapping capability. This tool was developed to cater for larger casing sizes ranging from 9-5/8in to 16in. The 3-1/2in RADII™ includes all the differentiating technologies of the 1-11/16in and 2-3/4in RADII but also has additional features such as modular connector types to allow for backward combinability with tools from our previous generation.

Second Generation Multi-Arm Caliper (MAC) At Probe we are continually seeing more and more emphasis being placed on better evaluation of the well integrity and corrosion monitoring. For many years this challenge has been met using services offered by Multi Arm Caliper tools which provide accurate internal measurement of the casing internal diameter.

However all caliper tools in the market are constrained by the same physical limitations. These limitations are related to the physical properties of sensors such as LVDT (Linear Variable Differential Transformer); temperature variations in the downhole environment create change to the characteristics of the LVDT therefore all LVDT’s have to be characterized for temperature variation.

Also, there are limitations related to the complicated mechanical set up to convert a radial movement at the caliper tip to a vertical movement at the LVDT level. This has been reflected as inaccuracies in measurement - until now. Probe’s revolutionary and patented technology which includes newly designed LVDT’s, addresses both of the challenges associated with caliper type measurements. Probe’s second generation Caliper tool is able to offer electronics which are completely stable throughout the temperature range of the tool. This is achieved through our patented ratiometric design and years of know-how in the design of down hole electronics.

Constant Force Centralizer There are known limitations of existing products, and because of interest from clients, it was decided that Probe should design and manufacture a new constant force centralizer.

To address customer needs and in order to offer a truly innovative solution, we have designed and released a new centralizer.

In general, for wireline tools, shorter is always better. With this in mind, several design “innovations” were employed to minimize the tool length. As a result, Probe’s new centralizer has a makeup length of just 26.8 inches. This is significantly shorter than other centralisers on the market. The relatively short tool length of Probe’s design is a result of its overlapping arms and telescopic backup arms.

The wheels of the constant force centralizer are free to rotate even when the tool is completely closed to its 3.5 in OD. The tool is designed to open to 12.7 in which is the I.D. of 13-3/8 in, 48 lb-ft casing. Approximately 40 lb of centralizing force is active across that entire range.

Several features of the constant force centralizer are intended to minimize rolling friction. The wheels for the centralizer which are based on the patented I-Wheel™ technology, were designed to be as large as possible (1.3 in diameter) without violating the 3.5in tool OD specification. Maximizing the wheel diameter allows the wheel to last longer and roll more smoothly across irregularities in the casing. Each arm has two wheels that roll independently on ball bearings.

Spectral Gamma Ray Potassium, Thorium, and Uranium: Gamma ray…Understanding the formation composition.

For many years the ability to gain a better understanding of the mineral composition of the formation was only reserved for the larger service companies. Probe is now introducing its Spectral Gamma Ray tool which provides a reliable means to gain an insight into formation composition. The gamma ray spectrum measured is resolved into the three most common elements of naturally occurring radiation in sands and shales—Potassium, Thorium, and Uranium (K, Th, and U).

The data is used to distinguish important features of the clay or sand around the wellbore. The clay type can be determined, and sand can be identified as radioactive. The deposition of radioactive salts behind the casing by the movement of water can also be identified. The gamma spectrum is dissected into 256 channels internally in the electronics and can be configured to transmit data to the surface computer as raw spectral data.

The Probe Spectral Gamma Ray can be configured to be used with the Probe platform of Open Hole or Cased Hole tool strings.

Open Hole Tools Probe manufactures a complete portfolio of downhole tools that are used to assess the potential productivity of hydrocarbon reservoirs. These tools are used in combination to better understand fluid distribution and predict movement to monitor fluid fronts, identify bypassed pay, and optimize reservoir simulation.

Litho-Density Tool - The Litho-density Tool measures the density and lithology of open-hole rock formations. These measurements are performed by bombarding the formation adjacent to the wellbore with gamma rays from a cesium radioactive source embedded inside the tool; the resulting scattering being analysed from two detectors mounted on a skid pressed against the borehole wall. The two detectors compensate for the effects of hole rugosity and mud-cake thickness while the bulk density and Pe (photoelectric) measurement is made.

Compensated Neutron Tools - The Compensated Neutron Tool (CNT) measures the hydrogen index of the formation. Measurements are converted to porosity values, in combination with density tool measurements these provide an indication of lithology and the presence of oil and gas in the zones of interest. The CNT contains an AmBe neutron source that bombards the formation with fast neutrons. These neutrons are slowed and then captured, primarily by hydrogen atoms inside the fluid contained within the pores of the formation (water, oil or gas). The slowed neutrons deflected back to the tool are counted by dual ruggedized, high temperature proportional He3 detectors and a rock porosity is derived.

Dual Induction Laterlog - (DIL) tools provide measurements of the formation resistivity at three different depths, including a deep and medium induction curve and a shallow laterlog resistivity curve, to deliver an accurate profile of borehole invasion and formation resistivity. Resistivity is a direct indicator of the nature of the fluid inside the rock formation as oil or gas presents high resistivity whereas water conducts current and therefore has a low resistivity profile.
