There are places where light and shadow, height and depth, space and time intersect. Where we reach the crossroads of our decisions. Where our dreams and reality meet. It’s a whole new dimension where the roads to searching and understanding, departures and returns, reasons and emotions crisscross each other. These intersections are all around us. Even within us. They are full of expected as well as surprising encounters. Full of stories. All you need to do is slow down and watch.

Design is something we admire. Space is something we experience. Design speaks. Space lets those words echo. Design can reach an audience. But space gives the audience room for applause.

TwinDoor – the variable opening of the boot is not only an original innovation, but also a patent of the ŠKODA brand. With this unique structural and design solution, the Superb Sedan takes an exclusive position not only in its class, but among cars in general.

On the one hand, it represents a classically elegant Sedan with a luxurious space for passengers that is completely separated from the luggage area.

When you press the soft-touch button in the middle of the boot, only the fi rst part will open and you will have access to stored items.

On the other hand, the Sedan is also a very practical Liftback, which enables unlimited access to the luggage compartment and easy handling of bulky items, by lifting both parts of the boot including the window.

Even modern technology can have a simple solution. The result is easy orientation. Cutting-edge, yet friendly features, including many innovations that will sweeten your life unbelievably. It’s technology serving humankind, not the other way around.

The optional electric panoramic sunroof of the Wagon, the front part of which can be tilted

and shifted outward (with a windbreaker), has tinted glass which reduces heat and light penetration.

The entire window can also be covered by an electronically controlled blind.

You will fi nd a removable LED fl ashlight on the left side of the luggage compartment (Wagon only) which recharges automatically when put back in its place (when the engine is running). The fl ashlight is also equipped with a magnet so it can be mounted, for example, on the body of the vehicle when changing a tyre at night.

Park Assist, (standard on Wagon) utilises front and rear

sensors to simplify vehicle handling – it literally parks the car for you. While Park

Assist operates the steering wheel, the driver just uses

the accelerator and the brake pedals to park.

The optional KESSY (Keyless Entry with engine start/stop function) allows you to unlock and lock

the vehicle, as well as start and switch off the engine without actively using the key. You only

need to have the key with you.

Luggage compartment lighting in the Superb is purposefully designed. There are two small lights located on the inner side of the boot, intensively illuminating not only the spacious luggage compartment, but also the space behind the vehicle.

Illuminated internal door handles make exiting the car in the dark easier.

The boarding spots, designed to illuminate the entry areas, are located on the external mirrors and on the underside of the front and rear doors and help you to avoid puddles in the dark.

Lighting of the foot area in the rear is activated when the rear door is opened in the Elegance models.

A sense of safety and enjoyment during a drive is paramount. It’s about peace of mind as well as adrenaline, about being deliberate and carefree. These are opposites which only meet at one place. A place where you can rely on exceptional safety equipment.

The linear refl ective surfaces, “cat’s eyes”,

improve the rear visibility of the car.

Driver and passenger airbags belong to the basic car safety elements, as do the curtain airbags which create a protective wall along the side windows when activated.

Bi-Xenon headlamps with AFS (Adaptive Front Light System), standard in the Elegance model, also contribute to the looks of the car. The sharply-cut shape and expansion toward the sides give a dynamic expression to the Superb. As for their functionality, the Bi-Xenon headlights of the Superb are fascinating not only for their excellent luminous intensity, but also for their new Adaptive Front Light System, which enables automatic modifi cation of the shape of the beam so the lighting is adapted to various driving conditions.

Deactivation of interior monitoring and the inclination sensor, located on the B-pillar on the driver’s side, will partially limit alarm functionality (standard on Elegance).

The rain sensor in the rear-view mirror automatically activates the front windscreen wipers based on the rain intensity.

Side airbags in the front are designed for protection of the pelvis and chest. Rear side airbags located in the rear seats between the backrests and doors offer the same protection.

The driver’s knee airbag prevents contact with the lower part of the dashboard in the event of a collision.

One intersection may bring together two worlds. Comfort and practicality. When they meet, practical comfort is born. Nothing here is without purpose. Everything conforms to the highest demands for comfort, yet has a simple, useful function.

The dashboard evokes a feeling of comfort at fi rst sight and fi rst touch. The ergonomic placement of individual controls allows you to become quickly oriented to your surroundings. The new generation steering wheels for Superb are available in several designs, which differ in shape, material and functions offered, but each make driving a pleasure because the Superb is accurately and easily controlled.

Front foglights with corner functionality can, of course, be utilised during limited visibility. But if the foglights are switched off and the headlights still on, the corner function is activated when manoeuvring the car at speeds up to 40km/h, depending on the steering wheel position or the indicator lights. It automatically activates either right or left foglight, alerting the driver to possible obstacles on an unlit road.

Tyre Pressure Monitoring is a system that utilises data from the ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) sensors. Sudden decrease in tyre pressure is manifested by a change in revolution speed of the under-infl ated tyre compared to the other tyres, so a warning light on the instrument panel will alert the driver about the inconsistency.

Heating of the rear seats, standard in Elegance, is regulated by a separate control on the rear of the central armrest, and in cold weather contributes to the comfort of your journey. This function is supplied in combination with heated front seats.

The electric driver’s seat is also equipped with a memory function, which can store three different seating positions as well as the various settings of the external mirrors. This option comes as standard in the Elegance model.

Columbus satellite navigation (inc 30GB hard drive) is standard on the Elegance. It has a user-friendly, touch-sensitive screen and high-resolution display that shows 3D maps and video. With a generous 30GB hard drive and built-in DVD drive, your music library and navigation data is always at your fi ngertips. Your favourite music can also be accessed via an MP3 compatible aux-in multimedia socket or SD memory slot card. Voice activated control function also available.

The optional electric sunroof with solar cells (Sedan only) is a unique example of our modern technology helping serve your comfort. Solar cells inside the sunroof, whether open or closed, generate electric energy that drives a ventilator, which takes care of air circulation inside the vehicle. Therefore, the Superb provides you with a fresh and pleasant interior climate even after extended parking in the sun. During a hot day, the temperature inside the vehicle can be lowered by up to 25°C. As an option you can order a traditional electric sunroof with tinted glass, enabling a view of the sky while providing protection from sunglare. Both sunroofs can also be closed via the remote central-locking key.

Integrated telescopic headlight washers, being part of the Bi-Xenon headlights, easily clean off dust and mud, helping to keep the headlights clean and working effectively.

Optional roller blinds for the rear of the Sedan, and rear side windows signifi cantly increase passenger comfort by minimising sun glare.

Electronically retractable mirrors will be especially useful when parking on city streets. The passenger wing mirror also automatically tilts downwards when you engage reverse gear, helping you navigate when reversing in to tight spots. Also as standard, the side indicator lights are integrated in the external mirrors.

The roof railing comes in an anodised coating. Optional privacy glass, with a higher density of tint in the rear part of the vehicle, not only protects passengers from direct sunlight but also accentuates a sense of privacy.

The optional power tailgate can be controlled from four different locations: the remote control button; a button on the centre console; an internal button on the boot; and the external soft-touch button. You may also adjust the upper door position individually according to your needs.

The soft-touch button in the door panelling allows automatic closing of the boot.

The space that the Superb Wagon offers for both passengers and luggage is exceptional. The luggage compartment with a basic volume of 633 litres can be extended up to 1,865 litres by folding the rear seats.22

Page 23: Brochure: Skoda 3T.I Superb (October 2011)australiancar.reviews/_pdfs/Skoda_Superb_3T-I_Brochure... · 2014-10-13 · room for applause. 5. TwinDoor – the variable opening of the

The rear seats are designed with an

emphasis on the highest possible comfort and convenience, so the

backrests and seats are separate and foldable.

Optional automatic release of cargo cover shifts to the centre position after the boot is opened, which makes access to your luggage highly convenient. (This functionality comes as a standard with power tailgate).

To position and secure luggage, the Superb Wagon is equipped with integrated aluminium strips with fi xing elements. This allows you, for example, to separate the luggage space in two, while the fi xing strap can be used to prevent luggage from sliding around.

The optional extendable boot fl oor levels the area with the loading edge, and creates a hidden storage area. By extending the fl oor you may cover the loading sill, which will make it easier for you to handle big or bulky luggage.

You will fi nd closed storage compartments behind the rear wheel arches. Practical folding luggage hooks will also make transporting your shopping easier.

The V6 4x4 version holds a unique position among our models. In terms of driving attributes it adds a more enjoyable and sporty angle to the already luxurious driving experience of the Superb. When driving the four-wheel-drive Superb, you will feel even more secure on slippery or loose surface roads because the rear axle is governed by a Haldex clutch control unit that immediately reacts to changing conditions, directing drive to those wheels with the most grip to compensate for those wheels which are slipping. The engine offered for this four-wheel drive version is our 3.6 FSI V6/191kW 6-cylinder petrol engine, which is exclusively delivered with the 6-speed DSG transmission.

GLOSSARY

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)When braking, sensors in each wheel measure the road speed. If one or more wheels start to lock, the ABS reduces brake pressure to those wheels. This prevents the wheels from locking during heavy or emergency braking and allows you to continue to steer the vehicle.

Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR)ASR is a switchable traction control system that prevents the front wheels from spinning under acceleration. When a difference in driving wheel speed is detected (e.g. due to differences in road surfaces), the system automatically reduces engine torque accordingly.

Electronic Stability Control (ESC)The ESC is made up of the ABS and ASR traction control systems. Simply put, it helps ensure that the vehicle goes where you steer it – even in extreme driving conditions. By constantly comparing the actual movement of the vehicle with pre-determined values, ESC will apply the brakes to individual wheels and automatically adjust the engine’s power output to correct a problem the very moment it arises.

Brake AssistBrake Assist aids the driver during emergency braking by automatically increasing the brake pressure to a level exceeding the locking limit. Then, the ABS is quickly brought into the operating range, thereby enabling maximum vehicle deceleration.

Electronic Brake-pressure Distribution (EBD)This sophisticated system provides an electronic means of regulating the ratio of front to rear brake pressure. The system automatically varies the settings according to driving and load conditions to ensure each wheel is braked to the optimum extent.
