Innovative: electric ALLROUNDERs

SpeedIn the electric ALLROUNDER machines, the main axes for injection, dosing as well as opening and closing the mould are ser-vo-electrically driven as standard, and there-fore fully independent of one another. Fast acceleration and speeds, as well as simulta-neous movements reduce cycle times and achieve greater cost-efficiency.

PrecisionOn the electric ALLROUNDER machines, play-free and direct-acting spindle drives provide for mechanically rigid drive axes and correspondingly dynamic movements. Combined with the excellent positioning ac-curacy of all servo-electric drives, this per-mits the highest degree of reproducibility and part quality. Absolute position encoders make movement to a reference position un-necessary.

With our ALLROUNDER injection moulding technology, ARBURG has consistently set new standards. This is a principle we have consistently applied with our electric ALLROUNDER ma-chines. What does this mean for you? That spindles, motors and their control, for example, are selected exclusively ac-cording to the most stringent criteria in terms of function and quality. Regard-less of whether you work with our at-tractive entry-level GOLDEN ELECTRIC model, our EDRIVE or our high-preci-sion, individually adaptable ALLDRIVE; whether you are at home in the medi-cal-technology, packaging or automo-tive industry: you produce complex moulded parts highly efficiently and cost-effectively without exception.

Energy efficiencyThe high efficiency of the servo-electric drives and the toggle-type clamping unit of the electric ALLROUNDER machines ensure energy-efficient operation. The energy re-covery by the servo motors during braking also has a beneficial effect. Together, these factors combine to reduce energy consump-tion by 25 to 50%.

Minimising emissionsThe servo-electric drives are liquid-cooled and therefore capable of especially low-noise operation. Air turbulence is avoided and the targeted dissipation of heat consid-erably reduces the amount emitted into the environment. Closed drives and spindle sys-tems reliably prevent exposure to dust caused by abrasion. The machines are thus perfectly suited to clean room production.

ValueA broad range of processing tasks can be accomplished with consistently high quality using the high-precision electric ALLROUNDER machines. The high degree of reliability of the machines and subsequent minimal variability in the process is achieved by numerous technical details. This includes, for example, the closed cooling circuit of motors and converters for fast cycles and long holding pressure phases.

Productive: hybrid ALLROUNDERs

Our hybrid ALLROUNDER machines ena-ble you to achieve high performance in cycle-time optimised thermoplastics pro-cessing. With the HIDRIVE machine series, we bring together the best from the ARBURG modular system: a powerful combination of sophisticated electrical and hydraulic machine technology. Reliable, highly-functional and energy- efficient – that’s how the ALLROUNDER H machines work in your production. Day after day, 24 hours around the clock.

Cost-effectivenessThe sophisticated hybrid ALLROUNDER technology provides for reliable operation and maximum availability. High acceleration and final speeds combined with simultane-ous machine movements result in signifi-cantly greater cost-effectiveness through re-duced cycle times. Furthermore, numerous technical detail solutions are aimed at the sustainable minimisation of set-up times.

Cycle time reductionAll movement axes operate completely independently of one another. In this way, simultaneous drive movements can be achieved whatever the application. The extremely short dry cycle times of the ser-vo-electric clamping units enable fast cycles. Special features such as “injection on the fly” or dosage that takes place across several cycles are also available.

Maximum efficiency: a combination of electric

dosing and hydraulic accumulator technology.

Page 7: Brochure: Products and services

703/2018 · www.arburg.com

Energy optimisationThe high efficiency of the servo-electric dosage drive and the toggle-type clamping unit ensure energy-efficient operation of the hybrid ALLROUNDERs. Moreover, the hydrau-lic drive features a performance-adapted pump and an efficiency class IE3 electric mo-tor. Together, these factors combine to reduce energy consumption by up to 40 percent.

DynamicsIn addition to the dynamic mould move-ments of the servo-electric clamping unit, hydraulic accumulator technology also signif-icantly contributes to the achievement of shorter cycle times. This enables large, dy-namic injection flows. In addition, a position- regulated screw ensures maximum reproduc-ibility and part quality.

Production capacityThe hybrid ALLROUNDER machine concept has been configured with the particular aim of achieving high production capacities. The machines therefore boast high injection performance in relation to the respective clamping force and combine• servo-electric clamping units from the

Versatile: Hydraulic ALLROUNDERs

Energy saving: powerful differential piston system

in the clamping unit.

High performance, reliable injection moulding machines: this is what our hydraulic ALLROUNDERs stand for. The machines range from the low-cost entry level models of the GOLDEN EDITION series to the custom-adaptable ALLROUNDER S series. Our modular de-sign approach opens up a whole range of cost-efficient options with several alternative hydraulic and electric expan-sion stages as well as various equip-ment versions. Thanks to their adapt-ability, the hydraulic ALLROUNDERs not only offer a wide variety of different applications, but can also be equipped in an extremely energy-efficient man-ner. You specify your requirements and we build a suitable hydraulic ALLROUNDER. Especially for you.

Further information: Hydraulic ALLROUNDER brochure

Diverse applicationsHydraulic ALLROUNDER machines can be optimally adapted for operation in conjunc-tion with all familiar injection moulding pro-cesses. They impress, not only with their large range of sizes, but also due to the ease of integration of various peripherals via the freely programmable SELOGICA control system. Equipment packages for specific tasks make the machines exceptionally flexi-ble and suitable for universal applications.

Cost efficiencyThe ALLROUNDER GOLDEN EDITION is the entry-level model in the hydraulic product range. The machines’ unbeatable price/per-formance ratio is achieved through the con-sistent standardisation of the extensive, technically high-quality standard equip-ment. For example, two regulating pumps and fast-switching valve technology are provided as standard.

Page 9: Brochure: Products and services

903/2018 · www.arburg.com

IndividualityThe hydraulic ALLROUNDERs can be adapted precisely to the relevant applica-tions and energy requirements. This is achieved by means of several hydraulic ver-sions and electric expansion stages, an ex-tensive clamping force and injection unit range as well as numerous equipment ver-sions and combination options.

ReproducibilityRegulated injection ensures reproducible mould filling and the customary high moulded part quality on all hydraulic ALLROUNDERs. With the “position-regulated screw” option on the ALLROUNDER S, injec-tion moulding reproducibility comparable to that of electric machines can be achieved.

ReliabilityAll hydraulic ALLROUNDER models are high-performance machines featuring quality workmanship. Optimum availability and a long service life are synonymous with the ARBURG name. Proven features include:• energy-saving oil exchange

via the differential piston system of the clamping unit

• high stability of the clamping unit thanks to four tie bar guidance

ErgonomicsA high degree of ergonomics is particularly important during the processing of inserts in order to organise manual operations as conveniently and efficiently as possible. In the case of the entry-level ALLROUNDER V machine, this is achieved by means of the so-called vertical free-space system for the clamping unit. Here, tie-bars are dispensed with, rendering the mould freely accessible from three sides.

Application versatilityThe entire technology of the vertical ALLROUNDERs can always be matched precisely to the specific injection moulding task. This is achieved through:• the wide range of clamping forces and

injection units• the flexible vertical and horizontal

arrangement of the injection units• task-specific equipment packages,

such as for silicone processing, for example

If you intend to use vertical injection moulding machines in your production facility, we currently offer the widest range in the entire industry. Our vertical ALLROUNDERs are designed especially for the overmoulding of inserts. Our ex-tensive product range extends from the ALLROUNDER principle with swivelling clamping unit and interchangeable in-jection unit on ALLROUNDER S ma-chines, our entry-level vertical model, the ALLROUNDER V, the flexible ALLROUNDER T vertical rotary-table machines, through to customer-specific, specifically configured vertical machines. Furthermore, a wide variety of equip-ment options and possible combinations are available. The choice is yours: what-ever your application requires.

AutomationIn order to enable simultaneous insertion and removal of items during the injection process, machine versions with rotary or sliding tables are also available. This enables shorter cycle times and thus higher produc-tivity. The versatile configuration options ensure that vertical ALLROUNDER machines

can also be easily integrated in auto-mated production lines.

Process reliabilityAs you would expect from ARBURG, the in-jection units of the vertical ALLROUNDERs offer the customary high plasticising and moulded part quality. The position-regu-lated screw enables reproducible injection movements which are equally accurate to those of electric machines. The rotary tables of the ALLROUNDER V and T are generally servo-electrically driven. This makes them extremely fast and precise.

Space optimisationIn particular, the ALLROUNDER V entry-level models impress through their compact de-sign and small footprint. This makes them ideal for use in confined production envi-ronments. The scope for planning in the installation of the machines remains corre-spondingly flexible. Full and problem-free integration in differently-designed produc-tion lines is also possible.

Unique: the freeformer

We are completely redefining plastics processing with our patented process for industrial additive manufacturing, known as ARBURG Plastic Freeforming (APF). The freeformer, our system for the additive manufacturing of func-tional parts, produces efficiently and flexibly. No mould required. Parts cre-ated directly from 3D CAD data. With qualified standard granulates. Through layer-by-layer application of tiny plastic droplets. Our open system permits indi-vidual process optimisation and qualifi-cation for your own materials without restriction. Get started with a technol-ogy that offers brand new opportuni-ties to produce individual one-off parts and multi-variant small-volume batches.

Further information: freeformer brochure

ARBURG Plastic Freeforming brochure

Material diversityThe freeformer can be used to process qual-ified standard granulates in a flexible way. It does not require prefabricated materials, such as resins, powders or strands, which are process-specific and thus often corre-spondingly expensive. This means that a wide range of low-cost materials and col-ours are available to choose from. However, reproducible additive manufactur-ing requires the materials used to be quali-

fied. This qualification results in optimised process data, which ARBURG makes availa-ble in a material database. This database is being continuously extended and in addi-tion to standard material types, also with special original materials such as PP and PE (semi-crystalline), PEI (high temperature re-sistance), flame-proof materials and medical polylactide.

Compact and free from emissions: the freeformer

is suitable for use in any environment.

Page 13: Brochure: Products and services

13

Open systemThe freeformer is designed as an open sys-tem. Slice and process parameters are freely programmable and can thus be individually optimised at any time. Together with ARBURG’s material database, this means cus-tomer-specific modified original materials are also quickly ready for use, for example a PC approved for the aerospace industry.

Multi-component technologyThe freeformer is equipped as standard with several discharge units. This enablesthe manufacture of parts from different materi-als and colour combinations – including as a durable hard/soft combination. Self-dyeing is possible in master batches. In the case of complex part geometries, of the components can alternatively be used to construct support structures.

Industry 4.0 in practiceAs a key topic for the future, Industry 4.0 not only impacts on production but also on the products of tomorrow. Objectives in-clude greater added value, as well as sup-port for new business models. There is no such thing as a standard 4.0 solution! After all, no two plastic production set-ups are the same. Consequently, the path to digit-ised production in the “smart factory” requires customised concepts that are

created through the interaction of various components and systems. This calls for in-terdisciplinary expertise. ARBURG is particu-larly well positioned as a technology and systems partner. Our expertise ranges from machine, process, automation and control technology through to digital networking. Customers benefit from a modular product portfolio of components that can be com-bined and expanded in a flexible manner, helping to optimise your processes and

making them more efficient. No matter whether customers wish to digitise individ-ual machines, entire production or service, making them “more intelligent” and “smarter”, ARBURG is always there to meet their needs.
