About the Conference

This National level conference is being organised by the Department of Commerce, Tolani

College of Commerce jointly with the Board of Studies in Business Management, University of

Mumbai. With the globalisation of education, it is important to review the methods and

techniques that are currently adopted in the teaching-learning process. The methods and

techniques adopted in the classroom as well as outside need to be upgraded so that the objectives

of higher education are achieved and to facilitate greater interaction between faculty and

students. Today, the traditional chalk and talk method of teaching has to be supplemented if not

replaced with new and innovative methods of teaching, which will make the teaching-learning

process more interesting and participative. In India the higher education scenario is about to

witness a sea change with many foreign universities of repute setting up campuses across the

country and/or having tie-ups with Indian institutions. Over the years the higher education

system has not been able to meet industry requirements and there have been criticism from

industry circles that the graduates and post graduates churned out by universities are

unemployable.

A complete revamp of the higher education is essential to meet global standards and the

changing industry requirements. One area that needs special and immediate attention is the

techniques and methods used in the teaching-learning process in institutions offering under-

graduate and post-graduate courses. It is important to develop appropriate mass-instruction,

group instruction and individual learning techniques. To review the methods and techniques used

currently in the teaching learning process and to discuss the importance of new techniques and

methods, the College proposes to organise this national conference in collaboration with the

Board of Studies for Business Management, University of Mumbai.
