PAINWeek®2009
The PAINWeek curriculum covers content relevant to frontline practitioners who are part of the pain care continuum. The general session provides practical information and education that have immediate application to clinical practice for pain specialists, practitioners with advanced pain management skills, and primary care clinicians who regularly treat pain.
Purpose StatementPAINWeek provides practical knowledge and tools for busy pain management practitioners to utilize in their daily practice.
Educational Need“Pain is the most common reason Americans access the health care system and is a leading contributor to health care costs. Pain is also a leading cause of disability. Most painful conditions can be relieved with proper treatment, and providing adequate pain management is a crucial component of improving and maintaining quality of life for patients, survivors, and their loved ones. Yet people in pain often face significant barriers that can prevent proper assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of their pain“. Summary of S.660, Hatch/Dodd National Pain Care Policy Act of 2009
The National Pain Care Policy Act was a response to the realization that more than 40 million Americans cope with chronic pain issues that negatively impact their professional and personal lives. Most healthcare providers have not had adequate training in pain management, and this remains one of the biggest obstacles to patient care.
