    Maintenance-FreeWinches

    Both types of winches aremaintenance-free. The built-in wet-type disc brake for thefree-fall winch has a forced-oil cooling system to preventoverheating, and requires no

    band adjustment or liningreplacement.

    The CKE1800 features a non free-fall winch as standard that providesconstant hydraulic power to the winches to prevent accidental free-fallthrough operator error. An optional free-fall winch (with wet-type discbrake) is also available, which delivers highly reliable performance formaterial handling and general foundation work.

    KOBELCO s new oil-cooled wet-type mul-ti-disc brake system is first in its class andprovides quiet, dependable braking power.The multiple discs are self-adjusting andself-equalizing. Forced-oil circulation keepsbrake temperatures cooler during long,continuous operations and ensures smoothbraking. The completely enclosed systemeliminates the possibility of out- side con-tamination, providing years of problem-freeservice life. In optional free-fall mode, thebrake pedal is easily de-pressed to reduceoperator fatigue.

    New Hydraulic SystemImproves SimultaneousOperations

    In a conventional series hydrauliccircuit (a conflux hydraulic circuit),the boom winch is driven by thesame hydraulic pump that drivesthe main or auxiliary winches. Thiscan result in hydraulic pressureinterference that reduces line speedwhen the hook and boom are hoistedor lowered simultaneously.The CKE1800 features indepen-dent hydraulic circuits for the main,

    auxiliary, and boom hoist winches,thereby eliminating interference.The circuits can be operatedsimultaneously with lower shocksand virtually no speed re duct ions ,regardless of winch speed or loadcondition.

    Control Levers ConnectedDirectly to Pilot Valves forSmooth Operation

    The control levers regulate the pilotvalves directly to reduce theamount of play and ensure smooth,precise hoisting start-ups andinching. Control is light and sure,with almost no clatter even overlong operating periods.

    Selectable Swing Modes toMatch the Job at Hand

    This mode is designed for materialhandling and other cycle-duty oper-ations that require consecutiveswing cycles. The swing iscompletely free and can beoperated at High or Low speed tosuit job requirements.

    When the crane is working on aslope in Free Swing Mode, it may

    swing in an unintended direction assoon as the swing parking brake isreleased. To prevent this, theNeutral Brake Swing Mode reducesoperating speeds by lowering theflow of oil in the hydraulic circuit,thus making swing starts and stopseasy to control when working on aslope or in windy conditions.Swing speed is also reduced in thismode to prevent the load frommoving sideways.

    The newly designed load moment indicator (LMI) sys-tem features a large, easy-to-read LCD display. Therated load, actual load, load ratio, andother information are displayed in largecharacters. Warnings and other items aredisplayed in color, and text messagesand alarms alert the operator to preventdangerous conditions from developing.Other information can also bedisplayed, including a rated load chartand rated load curve, in addition to afunction that regulates the workingrange.

    Clear, Panoramic ViewThe CKE1800 has a new cabin design with sash-less

    front and top glass that provides a panoramic frontwardand skylight view. The glass also has less curvature tominimize distortion. The front upper window has beenbroadened on both sides for a view that is 31% widerthan a conventional cab, while the top-window view iswidened toward the rear.

    Boom Assembly/Disassembly ModeThe boom assembly/disassembly mode, which is usedto release the over-hoist prevention function to facilitateboom assembly and disassembly, is activated with aswitch located under the multi-function LCD display ofthe load moment indicator (LMI). (This switch isdifferent from the switch that releases the auto-stopfunctions for over-load and hook over-hoist.)     Safe, Environmentally-Conscious Two-Stage System to Prevent Boom and Jib Over-Hoists

    With primary and secondary over-hoist prevention devices, this newsafety system can prevent boomover-hoist at two stages. Theprimary stop function is activatedwhen the boom or luffing boomapproaches the critical angle-to-ground during hoisting. This newsystem monitors the angle-to-ground of the boom, luffing boom or

    jib with a sensor, and swiftly alertsthe operator of danger. For theluffing boom, the angle-to-machine

    is also monitored at this stage. Thesecondary stop function uses adevice that monitors the angle-to-machine of the boom, luffing boom,or jib through a limit switch fitted tothe boom and jib backstops. It stopsthe machine automatically toprevent it from working outside ofthe safety range, and onceactivated it cannot be cancelled.

    Automatic Soft-Stop Function Reduces Shocks

    Other Safety Features

    This function is activated automatically when boom or luffing jib lowering, orboom hoisting is stopped by the over-load prevention system and the over-hoist prevention system. It makes for a smooth stop and reducesdangerous swinging of the load.

    Automatic Stop Release Switch with Safety FunctionThe automatic stop systemprevents over-load, hook over-hoistand boom over-hoist. To deactivate

    the system, a two-stage releaseprocedure is employed that uses amaster key and separate switches.This makes it easy to supervise theuse of the single key and preventunauthorized release of theautomatic stop system.

    Safety Functions of theOptional Free-fall Winch

    Free-fall with Monitoringand Lock FunctionsFree-fall operations can only beinitiated by releasing the lockusing a key switch. Unless thelock is released, freef-all cannotoccur even if the switch is put inthe neutral-free position. Also,to prevent the free-fall modefrom being activated accidentallybecause of system malfunction,a monitoring function monitorsthe free-fall clutch cylinderpressure in the winch.

    Free-fall Switch withInterlockThe free-fall switches are strate-gically located on the hoist lev-ers, allowing the operator to en-gage free-fall without removinghis hands from the control lev-ers. To prevent the load from ac-cidentally dropping, the interlock

    function makes it

    impossible to ini-tiate free-fall un-less the foot brakeis fully depressed.

    To prevent the load from accidentallydropping because of operator error, donot use free-fall when lifting.

    External lamp for over-load alarmnotifies surrounding workers of the loadcondition.

    Swing flashers and warning buzzer warnsurrounding workers when the machine is swinging.

    Cameras and color monitor provide views of therear of the machine, the main and auxiliary winches,and the boom hoist winch (optional).

    One-way call supports thesafety of onsite personnel(optional).

    Function lock lever helpsprevent accidental operationwhen the operator enters orleaves the cab.

    Directional markings onthe crawlers make it easy tosee which direction thecrawlers will move.
