Designing the gating system starts from inner gate. Following thedraft design or users experience, cross line should be designed atfirst. The section area of inner gates is a key factor of the wholegating system, it depends on the filling time, filling velocity,average thickness and mass of the casting part. The online tipprovides useful information summarized from industrial and thegating evaluation function can help check the design.
For gate-runner and runner design, the feature lines of flow path can be defined inseveral ways including the design wizard and pre-defined curves. Base on thefeature line, feature points could be taken out automatically and the sectiondimensions of the feature point could be calculated out with the appropriate area
corrections for different values of flow and/or skew angles. The lookup and previewfunction provides real time WYS/WYG visualization for both 2D and 3D and stillmaintains a good system performance.
Cold and hot chamber casting machine are supported in CAST-DESIGNER , thesprue-runner can be defined in full parameterized way. The shock absorber also canbe defined in the similar method.
All parameters of the gating system could be saved in a special format file and theuser can load it in anytime. As this concept, modify an existed design is so easy andmulti-design design proposal is supported. A large percent design lead time couldbe saved if the second design is similar as the last one and the customized designdatabase could be generated in some time.

Overflow, cooling and venting system design
CAST-DESIGNER creates rectangular, orbicular andwedge overflows at locations specified by designer andcalculates all dimensions based on the overflow gate lengthselected. The cooling and venting channel can be generatedbasing on the pre-defined path lines or curves, the sectionarea also could be defined in a flexible way.

natural design in die casting. With this feature, the designer can start his ideaon the draft paper, meeting board, graphics software and even thecommunication FAX paper with customer, such hard draft could be scanned orother method to transfer to CAST-DESIGNER in BMP, TIF or JPG format.With such image, one usage is setting such draft as bitmap background toassist the parameter design and another usage is converting the bitmap toCAD vector components for more flexibility capability for complex design,such as snap, extract, translation, free zoom and pan. Some toolkits can helpthe sizing and location of the draft image or vectors to match the designobjects.
