Appreciative Inquiry Coaching Workshop 8-12 September 2014 For the very first time in the Netherlands the Instituut voor Interventiekunde proud- ly presents the Appreciative Inquiry Coach- ing workshop, certified by the Lincoln Workshop Series. Appreciative Inquiry (A.I.) Coaching is a power- ful vehicle for energizing positive change in an individual or team by enabling them to discover, expand, and sustain their root causes of suc- cess; create a compelling dream of their desired future; and design specific plans to realize their dream for the future. A.I. Coaching also engages other whose support is important to the success of the coaching. A.I. Coaching takes special care to align the client's social support network to contribute to their learning, share their dream and support their deeply held values and aspira- tions, to reconnect to their strengths and capa- bilities and to create meaningful change. This often connects heart, mind, body and spirit while building strong and resilient relationships with relevant others. AI coaching can be used in any situation where the aim is to support the ability of an individual or team to realize their fullest potential. About the workshop This limited enrolment workshop is designed for coaches, managers and human resource profes- sionals, from corporate, governmental and charitable, not-for-profit organizations - anyone who wants to know how to use A.I. in coaching to help individuals or teams thrive personally and professionally. A.I. Coaching enables clients to integrate A.I. principles with their existing models of coaching to achieve enhanced results. Developed over ten years by Barbara Sloan, this workshop uses an experience-based model that prepares coaches to work with A.I. in their coaching with clients. This workshop also pre- pares leaders and managers to use A.I. in sup- porting the individual development of their staff members.

Participants arrive at the workshop havingidentified topics or goals they personally wantto achieve and on which they want to receivecoaching. During extensive practice sessions,participants coach one another using the prin-ciples and phases of A.I. and receive feedbackto hone their skills. Participants will also con-sult with each other and receive consultationfrom the facilitator on their plans to use A.I.Coaching with one of their clients or staffmembers in 'back home' applications.

PrerequisiteThis workshop is designed for coaches who arefamiliar with A.I. principles and practices; ex-perienced A.I. practitioners who want to ex-pand their work to include coaching; and man-agers who want to learn how to use A.I. asthey coach their staff members. Therefor, oneof the following is a firm prerequisite for partic-ipation in A.I. Coaching. Any exeptions will bemade at discretion of the facilitators.

Prerequisite - one of the following: A.I. Foundations Course offered by the

Lincoln Workshop Series, NTL Instituteor Jane Watkins.

Anne Radford's five-day A.I. trainingseries in London.

Wick van der Vaart's training in A.I.Foundations.

What you will learn in A.I.CoachingThis in-depth workshop will cover both thetheory and practice of Appreciative Inquiry asit pertains to coaching. Special attention will begiven to the power of positive questions; thesimultaneity of inquiry and change; the func-tion of narrative and metaphor, imagery, andbody awareness in personal learning andgrowth; how to deal with spiralling vocabular-ies of human deficit, how to create alignmentof mind, body and spirit; and how to buildstrong interpersonal relationships to supportthe client's ability to achieve their genuineaspirations. In addition to becoming familiarwith tools for applying A.I. in coaching, work-shop participants will:

Explore the relevance of A.I. principlesin coaching.

Identify how participants' coaching maypresently be influenced by these prin-ciples and how they can enhance theircoaching skill.

Practice using these principles in eachphase of A.I. Coaching

Give and receive support in apprecia-tive topic identification for coaching,question construction, interviewing anddialogue skills, grounded visioning,translating the vision into innovativeprocesses, practices, roles and struc-tures and implementing for sustainabil-ity.

Learn to enable the client to buildstrong relationships with key othersand involve them appropriately in cer-tain phases of the coaching.

Work though case examples of actualprojects that are brought by partici-pants.

Develop the ability to apply A.I. Coach-ing with clients.

Learn how to introduce this strikinglydifferent approach in ways that makesense to coaching clients.

About the facilitators

Barbara SloanBarbara is President of Sloan Dialogs, LLC, aninternationally recognized consultancy special-izing in change, strategic planning, executivecoaching and team building. This work hastaken place in the US, Canada, the Caribbean,Central and Eastern Europe, Asia, Africa, LatinAmerica, and the Middle EastHer previous positions include Director of theNTL Institute for Organizational Change (NTL)and Policy Analyst, Senior Consultant in man-agement development and Manger of CareerDevelopment at the World Bank.Barbara Sloan is a Founding Member of Appre-ciative Consulting, Inc.,a professional member of the NTL Institute forthe Applied BehavioralSciences and The Organization DevelopmentNetwork.

Wick van der VaartIn 2008, Wick van der Vaart walked in thewrong room, which turned out to be one themost valuable "accidents" in his life. In thatyear, he went to Bethel, Maine, to do a NTL(National Training Laboratory) Course on Or-ganization Development. Due to lack of partici-pants, the course got cancelled, and Wickwalked into a colloquy on Appreciative Inquiry.Wick was impressed by the stories of the otherparticipants, got to like most of them, and de-cided to do the certificate track on A.I. Sincethen Wick combines good old fashioned classi-cal interventionism with the appreciative ap-proach.Wick is also one of the teachers on AppreciativeInquiry of NTL nowadays. He teaches groupdynamics, organization development, and Ap-preciative Inquiry, and works as a coach, train-er, and/or consultant in many organizations.Wick is the founder of Instituut voorInterventiekunde and loves to work with self-willed "students" who are eager to make theirown future in their own way.

The course fee includes a workbook, lunch eve-ry day and all coffee/tea breaks, and excludesaccomodation (if applicable) and 21% BTW forDutch participants.
