Watermoor House

At Home In The Community

Watermoor House is a happy and lively home occupying a prime position near the centre of the historical market town of Cirencester. Here the residents are encouraged to maintain their independence, and to continue to make their own decisions about how they wish to live their lives. There is a chance to mix and make new friends.

The excellent quality of care at Watermoor House is due to our high staffing levels and an on-going programme of training. Our care assistants, under the supervision of the Home Manager, are on hand 24 hours a day. The bedrooms all have an en-suite WC with wash-hand basin, and television and telephone sockets. They are freshly decorated in neutral colours. There are call buttons in every bedroom and every en-suite, so that help is always available.

Residents have a choice of two lounges, the main one overlooking St. Michael’s park. There are pleasant gardens and terraces for sitting out on sunny days. Watermoor House offers a safe, homely and caring environment where help is on hand at any time of day or night, and visitors are always welcome.

Joining us at Watermoor House Moving into residential care is a difficult decision for most people to make. At Watermoor House, we aim to make this transition as smooth and comfortable as possible. Residents are made to feel entirely at home and looked after in a manner similar to that which would be given by a caring relative.

Residents’ rooms are regarded as personal space and we encourage you to bring as many of your own belong-ings as possible to make the room your own. You can receive visitors at any reasonable time and invite them for lunch or tea if you like.

The friendly carers and staff at Watermoor House are on hand to assist you with personal care and help you with anything you need. When you come to join us at Watermoor House you are encouraged to maintain your independence and to continue to make your own decisions about how you wish to live your life.

The daily routine Watermoor House is a supportive and stimulating environment where residents are encouraged to take part in as many activities as they wish. Our activities team are here Monday to Friday catering for a variety of interests. These include quizzes, films, music afternoons and poetry readings and group exercises, and there are one-to-one opportunities to go into town.

Special attention is paid to the quality of the food at Watermoor House and all special diets are catered for. Our in-house chef, Andrew Bartlett, plans the menus and he and his team prepare fresh food every day. Meals are served in the very pleasant dining room.

The day starts with a cup of tea [or other hot drink] in bed at around 7.00am, and then breakfast between 8.00 and 9.30am. We meet again in the lounge for coffee and biscuits at 10.30. The gong then announces lunch at 12.45pm, and there is a choice of at least two dishes for each course. Tea and home-made cakes are served in the lounge at 3.30pm, and then supper at 6.00pm. Hot drinks are served in the residents’ rooms at around 9.00pm.

Our annual Summer Fete, Halloween and Christmas Parties are popular and memorable occasions to which residents are encouraged to invite their friends and family. There are also opportunities to visit a variety of places of local interest, mainly in the better weather.

We have an in-house hairdresser, who uses the salon at least once a week. A chiropodist also visits regularly. We organise coffee mornings and concerts, and welcome other visiting groups, which means that you are never short of things to do or get involved in. At the moment, a group of students from the local Sixth Form College visit regularly, and enjoy one-to-one chats with the residents.

Personal care and health matters

We provide the personal care you need, giving help with washing, bathing, dressing, feeding and personal hygiene where necessary, always being very careful to respect your privacy and dignity. Our staff undertake an ongoing training and development programme, to ensure that they continue to offer the highest possible standard of care at all times.

Help is readily available 24 hours a day, by the use of the call bells which are installed in every room and every en-suite. We also care for you in the home during illness when at all possible.

Your overall well-being is our overriding concern, and so during your first week at Watermoor House, we agree a plan of care according to your needs. Then every day there is a note about your health and welfare. This enables carers and managers to keep abreast of your individual requirements. These records are, of course, available for you or your close family to read whenever requested.

If you are new to the area you will be given help to select a doctor. If you wish to visit the doctor, a member of staff can accompany you if a relative or friend is not available, or doctors can visit you at the home where consultations will take place in your own room.
