9th International Encounter for Arts Therapies Students

History

4ArTS is an international gathering of forty to sixty arts therapies students - art therapy, dance movement psychotherapy, music therapy, drama therapy - for an intensive four-day conference. The conference offers a well-balanced mixture of lectures given by established professionals and experiential workshops run by students. As arts therapies students, because we work with individuals, on an one-to-one basis or in groups, we strongly believe in the value of sharing our experiences and engaging in constructive debate about the educational and therapeutic significance of these experiences. It was this belief that lead to the creation of 4ArTS.

The idea of an ‘arts therapies student conference’ was conceived by Anna von Butler and Cettina Francella in 2005, during an ECArTE1 conference in Crete/Greece. During this conference, some students amongst which Anna and Cettina, created a student discussion forum with the hope to give students a space to voice their thoughts, feelings and ideas

about arts therapies. As a result, arts therapies students from all over the world engaged in fruitful dialogues with their peers about their future profession, how it is practiced and perceived by others, as well as their ideas and visions for it.

The main topics of discussion evolved around the diverse application of arts therapies around the world, job prospects, the dual role/nature of the arts therapist (therapist and artist) and the interplay of theoretical framework and creative work when with a client. This sharing of ideas, hopes, fears and wishes left the participants wanting more and thus the idea of an international student arts therapies conference was created with the logo ’for students by students’.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES

The objectives Our aim is to contact all European Art Therapies Students and to offer them an encounter where they can attempt lectures and workshops related to the arts therapies.

Who do we see as student:

- he/she is starting an arts therapy program;

- he/she is currently subscribed in an arts therapy program;

- he/she graduated within the academic

The encounter offers Educational objectives:

• opportunity to attend lectures of well established professionals in the field of Arts Therapies in one chosen field of study and in the other creative therapies;

• opportunity for students to run a workshop for their peers, in a supportive environment, which will not only improve their confidence and experience in their field, but also enable them to discuss and explore their practice in a constructive environment;

European projects.

The 4ArTS 2014, 9th International Encounter, will be held in Italy. Aps Creativi108 is supporting the coordination and promotion of this international event. Everyday it will be treated in detail to give students a memorable stay.

The training activities will take place, in the morning, at the well-equipped classrooms in Camplus Living Bononia and in the afternoon, in the spaces of the Museum “Pinacoteca Nazionale” of Bologna, in the city center. The evenings will have cheered from local events.

4ArTS will host more than 20 thematic meetings proposed by students and professionals from all over Europe. A Creative Camp for sharing skills and new horizons for artstherapies.
