Why Metal Free is Better?

Due to its biocompatibility, colour and its mechanical properties, Zirconia is a most suitable replacement for metal abutment. The bacterial adhesion, which is important to the process of Zirconia restorations without periodontal problems, was proven satisfactorily low.

One main benefit is that no allergic reactions can be expected when using Zirconia.

In addition, there is almost no danger of corrosion which is often the problem with metal based abutment. It also boasts of its extraordinary strength and durability capable of lasting for prolonged usage time. Metal free abutments are also resistant to any kinds of acids that may interact with the mouth.

TAV Dental manufactures all-in-house Zirconia abutments for dental applications.

Technical InformationYttria partially stabilized tetragonal zirconia (Y-TZP) has become increasingly popular as an alternative high-toughness core material in dental restorations thanks to its biocompatibility and attractive mechanical properties.

The polycristalline stability obtained by combining Zirconia with yttrium oxide (Y-TZP) provides an extremely fine-grained, dense and mechanically optimal structure.

Zirconia Abutments User Manual The device is intended to use as an abutment that is assembled on an implant. A prosthesis restoration crown is secondarily cemented on the abutment. Indicated for all cemented prosthesis.

Zircon abutment cemented crown procedure:

Modifying the abutment by adding ceramic to Zirconia

A liner shade base can be applied and baked according to the manufacturer's instructions.

In order to increase the bond and achieve desired shade, Build and shape the porcelain on the Zirconia abutment according to the porcelain manufacturer's instructions.

Use a porcelain with a coefficient of thermal expansion matched to the Zirconia.

Abutmentaftermodification. The abutment is screwed at a recommended tightening moment: 25-28 Ncm.

For the best aesthetic results it is recommended to cemented with a composite cement (universal resin cement), According manufacture manual.

A zirconia abutment is selected according to the case characteristics (height, angle, etc.). Modifications are allowed according the following protocol (generally done at the laboratory)

The abutment is screwed into an implant replica; modifications of the abutment must be done by grinding under water irrigation.

Recommended turbine speed 300,000 RPM (pressure 2.5-3 bars).

All sharp edges resulting from grinding must be polished rounded.

When preparing the zirconia abutment, verify that the thickness of the ceramic material is at least 0.7 mm.

It is recommended to grind the abutment on grinding handle tool with suitable Zirconia diamond burrs.

We recommend to use appropriate grinding and polishing instruments for processing our abutments.

Case properties

No flap surgery.

Needs good view of axis.

Needs initial stability.

Zirconia permits better healing and creeping attachement of gingiva on the abutment.

Abutment is torqued at 32 Ncm from the first setting and do not need to be dismounted.

Permanent crown is done later on the same abutment.

Two central incisors extracted with periotome

Two implants are insertedTitanium post are used to drive implants in position after drilling sequence. They can be used as a permanent post. In this case, they are removed and replaced by TAV Dental zirconia abutments.

TAV Dental Zirconia abutments are screwed with 32 Ncm torqueDue to drilling sequence, related with roots axis, one angulated and one straight abutments are used.

Abutments are adjusted in positionHigh speed micromotor and flushing is used to adjust abutments shape and length.

Immediate esthetics with temporary crownsDue to emmergency lab temps could not be done. Two Directa acrylic temp and self curing resin are used. diastema was a special request from the patient.

Objectives: The epithelial interactions with implant abutments seem to be similar to those seen around teeth but may be influenced by the used material. Because of aesthetic demands zirconia is increasingly applied in the past years. However, little is known about the epithelial attachment on this material. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the epithelial attachment and growth on different abutment materials in vitro.

Methods: Immortalized human gingival mucosal keratinocytes were cultivated for 24h on titanium (Ti) and zirconia (ZrO2) discs, which were abraded, polished and passivated according to a standardized protocol.

Geneexpressionofintegrinbeta4(ITG-ß4),integrinalpha6(ITG-6)andlamininbeta3(LAM-ß3),asasubchainoflaminin5,wereanalyzed by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), while expression and secretion of the corresponding proteins were evaluated by indirect immunofluorescence (IIF). Cell adhesion was assessed with a cell-coulter counter; cell spreading and morphology on different surfaces were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Results: qRT-PCR revealed no difference for the mRNA expression ofITG-ß4andITG-6onbothmaterials.

IncontrastexpressionlevelofLAM-ß3onZrO2was increased about 2-fold, but the difference was statistically not significant. In accordance, protein expression of laminin 5 was increased on ZrO2. SEM showed no marked differences in cell morphology but indicated a decreased number of attached cells on ZrO2 compared to Ti. However, this observation could not be confirmed by cell counting after 24h.

Conclusions: Epithelial cells seem to show a better epithelial attachment on ZrO2 compared to Ti surfaces proven qRT-PCR and IIF. However, the observed differences could not be confirmed statistically.

Quality AssuranceManufacturing process is carried out in accordance with the most stringent international standards. Quality Assurance and Regulatory systems comply with ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 13485:2003 standards, GMPregulationsandCE0483approved.
