SECRET LIFE OF TOYS Thank you so much to everyone who entered the Secret Life of Toys Competition. The entries were fantastic and it was clear to see how much effort and creativity had been put into each one. Judging the entries was very difficult and took Mr Rosa a long time to see which entry should win. There were four main winners: Third place (winning 5 VIVOS) was Logan in 8Y; Joint Second place (winning 10 VIVOS) were Ciaran in 5Y and Eleanor in 6X; and in First place (winning 15 VIVOS) was Lauren 7W. Congratulations to the winners and a huge thank you to everyone that took the time and effort to enter a very successful competition. Thank you. Mr Rosa

CAREERS WEEK

We will be holding our first Careers Week in May. We would love

to welcome into school any parents who would be willing to talk to

the pupils about their job, the skills required, the pitfalls and

highlights. If you are free on either Tuesday 16th May, Thursday

18th May or Friday 19th May then please let the school office

know. The aim of the week is to give our pupils as much

information as possible on as many careers as possible. We

welcome parents from all jobs—unusual or otherwise!

SPORT

We are really proud of the dedication and effort that the pupils have put in to training in order to improve

themselves. As a result we are delighted to report our recent achievements in sport.

In Key Stage 2 pupils have taken part in events in swimming, netball, football and rugby. The Poole and East

Dorset Swimming Gala was well attended by 12 primary and middle schools. Our Year 5 Girl’s team came joint

1st overall and the Relay Team will go on to compete in the County Event – well done to Mae P, Amy P, Grace D

and Anoka D! There were also a number of first, second and third place finishes – well done to Liam D,

Daniel A-S and Mae P who secured 1st place and will compete individually in the County Event! Runners-Up

places went to the Year 5 Girls Mixed Stroke Relay, Oliver H and Thomas G. Well done to all the pupils who

competed on the day!

The Year 6 Boy’s Football Team had a great run to the semi-final of the County Cup. They faced Ferndown

Middle - in a close game Ferndown got an early lead and the score stayed at 1 – 0. We created a few chances

and Harry F in goal made some fine saves as the team pushed forward for an equaliser. Well done boys on a

great season with so much improvement!

In rugby, the Year 6s were amongst 3 middle schools who took part in a tournament held at Wimborne Rugby

Club. It was a great afternoon where everyone learnt a lot about rugby and developed numerous skills which

should set the team up nicely going into Year 7. We lost to St Michael’s and Allenbourne but saved our best

performance for last, beating Lockyers. Well done boys.

Following County success before Christmas, the Year 5 and 6 Girl’s Football Team travelled to Bristol for the

Regional Finals. The event comprised of 10 county winners from the South West region. Following wins against

Berkshire, Cornwall and Oxford we finished runners-up in the group and qualified for the semi-final against

Somerset. This was a very close game with few opportunities and finished 0 – 0 after extra-time. The match was

decided on penalties; Rosie S in goal was the hero of the day, managing to save the final penalty resulting in a

victory that put us into the final! This was against Hampshire who had also won their semi-final on penalties. At

half time the score was 0 – 0 and the girls were playing brilliant football, creating some good chances. Following

a Hampshire attack, Megan B sliced the defence in two with a lovely pass for Abi B to run straight through on

goal. She took aim and fired into the bottom corner to take the lead. We then saw the game out with no alarm

to become Regional Champions. The next stage is the National Finals which we have now reached 2 years in a

row. What an achievement!

Years 5 & 6 Girls Football Team

In netball both Years 5 and 6 have had friendly matches against Baden Powell and Oakdale. It has been brilliant to

get so many girls playing regularly and attending training every week! In the Year 6 Poole and East Dorset

Tournament, our Year 6 A and B teams both finished top of their group and qualified to play each other and Baden

Powell A in a round robin. The girls played some really good netball but both teams lost to a very strong Baden

Powell side. That meant we finished 2nd and 3rd! In the Year 5 tournament, the A team finished top of their pool

and then beat Baden Powell A in the final to finish as overall winners! Congratulations girls!

In Key stage 3, we have taken part in many football and netball fixtures. The Boys Year 8 Football Team have

qualified for the semi-final of the Poole and East Dorset Cup. We beat Purbeck 2 – 1 with Max K and Sam R

scoring, whilst Harvey B saved a penalty to keep the score at 2 – 1. The team face Poole Grammar on the 31st

March.

The Girl’s Under 13s Football Team have also qualified for the Poole and East Dorset semi-final, following a victory

over Purbeck, this time 4—3. It was a close game with many opportunities for both teams. Good luck against

Poole High School girls.

The Year 7 Boys Football team beat Swanage 6 – 1 in the first round of the Poole and East Dorset Cup. It was a

great team performance where we took advantage of most of our chances and Oli E in goal had very little to do. In

the quarter final, we were edged out by 4 goals to 3 in another close match. On the day we had a number of

players injured or unavailable which was unfortunate. The team have a lot of potential so I’m looking forward to

them stepping up to 11-a-side next year and getting to the latter stages of at least one tournament.

The Year 6 and 7 Girl’s Football Team convincingly beat St Peter’s 4 – 1 in the semi-final of the County Cup to set

up a final with Highcliffe. This was played at Sir David English Centre last Thursday. The girls got the victory,

coming out 4 – 2 with Leah H scoring a hatrick and Abi B scoring the fouth. Again, well done girls!

In Netball, the Year 7s and 8s Teams both finished their Poole and East Dorset Tournaments and showed so much

improvement throughout the season. The Year 7 girls finished runners-up in their group and the Year 8s just

missed out on a medal. We also took part in the County Tournament where we played against 5 others schools.

Unfortunately both teams were unable to qualify through the group but again many lessons were learnt and much

improvement was made throughout. Again the girls have shown great consistency and commitment to netball

through the whole year, well done girls.

Overall a very positive term with over 140 pupils representing the school, give yourselves a big pat on the back.

The letters for extra-curricular activities has already gone out and so make sure you get involved in our Summer

sports.

Young Carers Lunchtime Club After the Easter break I would like to run a Young Carers Club here at Broadstone

Middle in the Learning Lagoon.

A young carer is someone aged 18 or under who helps to look after a relative who has

a condition, such as a disability, illness, mental health condition, or a drug or

alcohol problem. Most young carers look after one of their parents or care for a brother

or sister.

If this applies to you, please feel free to pop in on Wednesday lunchtime’s. There will

be games, chatting and biscuits!!!

See you there!!

SOUNDSTORM MUSIC PROJECT

Soundstorm music company came to visit us this week and gave us an opportunity to express our love for

music and showcase our musical talents. After introducing ourselves, our confidence was boosted with a fun

and interactive warm up. We soon learned that we were not the best at keeping in time with each other!

Throughout the session our skills improved and we sounded much more professional. Sam, the leader of the

group, taught us that music can have different meanings and stories. Adam was AMAZING at playing

different upbeat tunes that made the piece even more interesting. Padda was a fun teacher to work with

and he made us all laugh! Christian worked on the drums and played cool rhythms.

We all enjoyed creating the music and had so much fun playing the instruments. It was a great opportunity

and we are so glad we got the chance to do it!
