It is with great sadness that we bring you the news of the death of Tatsuo

Suzuki who died in the early hours of 12th July 2011.

Born in Yokohama, Japan in 1928, Tatsuo Suzuki moved to Europe in 1965.He

was an instructor to the late BKA Chairman Danny Connor in the 1960s and was

always held in high regard as a person and as a pre-eminent karate instructor.

He will be sorely missed by all practitioners of Wado Ryu Worldwide as one of

the last links to the founder of Wado Ryu, Hinori Ohtsuka.

2011 BKA OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP

SUNDAY 19TH

JUNE

The B.K.A. Open Championship held on Sunday 19th

June was a resounding success and I

would like to thank all the competitors and officials for making it a really good event.

Associations and clubs from England, Wales and Scotland attended the championship

providing a very high level of competition. As always we began the day with the senior male

Team kumite; this has now proved very popular with the competitors and the officials. It gets

the day started on time and injects an instant energy to the proceedings. All the categories

were completed to the final on each area with the 1st, 2

nd and joint 3

rd places presented with

excellent bespoke BKA Medals. The joint third idea is another plus for the competitors and

gives encouragement to those that are not yet making it to first and second place.

It was a great effort by the organizers, chief referee Peter Bibby and all the referees and

helpers to make the day run so smoothly and finish at a very respectable 5.50pm. From the

feedback I’ve received I’m sure that everyone had a most enjoyable day and we look forward

to hosting the event again next year.

LEAFLET

‘Karate for Life’ Leaflet The EKF are offering a free leaflet – up to 300

per club ( just pay p&p ) The club has to be on

the EKF club search site in order to apply. The

leaflet is a very good quality generic Karate

info leaflet with space to include your club

details. They can be used to give out a class or

as a leaflet drop in your area. Visit the EKF

website and have a look.

You’ll then need to register your club info,

which has to be done through us. You can then

order the product.

site. Obviously all club members

need to be EKF affiliated. This is a

free service so that the public can

locate clubs in their area.

Risk Assessment / Sheets

Please contact us if you require risk

assessment forms for your club or group.

If there is a negligence claim made against

an Instructor one of the first things that is

requested from the both sides of the claim

is a risk assessment. Remember that if you

are using the same premises all the time

then it may be that you only have to do the

risk assessment once and only amending

the form if new types of training are

practised or that there are changes to the

dojo/premises being used.

The form, once completed can be photo

copied and signed and dated at each

training session.

It’s in your own interest to do a risk

assessment. Please try to make it a habit.
