Collaborations today and beyond
• CICESE display wall and 10GigE networking with Calit2 / UCSD enables
expanded scientific collaborations
• Discussions of collaboration occurring among
– The Mexican Space Agency
– The proposed Mexican Agency on Oceans and Coasts
– Calit2 / UCSD
– Others
• How do other Mexican education and research institutions build display
walls and join the collaborations?
– Engage with CICESE Telematics Group for display wall expertise
– Engage with CUDI for networking needs
– Engage with CICESE and other Mexican research institutes
– Engage Calit2 / UCSD and other UC Universities (all are already connected at
10GigE via CENIC CalREN-HPR and CUDI services to the CUDI network)
CICESE Joins GLIF Network
Collaborations with Calit2 / UCSD / SIO
• Mexican research institutions interested in engagement opportunities with
Calit2 / UCSD / SIO might consider the following “first steps”:
– Mexican Researchers could invite UCSD colleagues of interest to visit their
institution on a one-on-one basis
– Visits to UCSD would surely result from such contacts
– CICESE could organize a conference at UCSD/SIO or CICESE covering areas
of overlapping research interest
– UCSD's IR/PS International Relations and Pacific Studies might be a good
place to work with on CICESE-UCSD opportunities
– Contact: Ms. Grace D. Osborne GLI, Assistant Director [email protected]
– CUDI and CENIC are good contact organizations for Mexico/California
advanced networking engagements
– SIO and Calit2 websites regularly announce upcoming conferences
– Scripps Institution of Oceanography http://sio.ucsd.edu/
– Calit2 http://www.calit2.net , http://www.calit2.net/research/index.php
– Calit2 has CSRO funding for collaborations involving UCSD researchers
using Calit2 research facilities (visualization, optics, cyber-infrastructure,
wireless, etc.). CSRO RFP coming out soon. See
