My immediate response was, ‘Don’t worry. Brightspark will take care of everything!’ And they did.

“When I became a school administrator 7 years ago I was introduced to Brightspark Travel. In my system many of the schools offer a trip to Washington, DC and NYC to 5th graders. When I went on my first Brightspark trip to DC & NYC in 2007, I was completely blown away by the customer service and attention to detail that the company had in place. Nothing is left to chance. A Brightspark representative is with the traveling group at all times, sometimes even 2 or 3 Brightspark representatives.

This past Friday, on the night that my 5th grade group was supposed to be heading home I received a text from the teacher who was leading this year’s trip. It said, ‘Flight has been cancelled. Will not be coming home tonight.’

For three more days. The airline cancelled the flight and due to the fact that it was the end of spring break for many and it was Cherry Blossom Festival week there were no available seats on outbound flights. My students who were scheduled to arrive home on Friday night finally got a flight out on Monday night. Brightspark took care of everything. They found hotel rooms for 3 more nights, they arranged 3 more days of meals, and planned 3 more days of touring and activities for my group. They turned what could have been a disaster into a 7 (instead of 4) day adventure!

I am completely amazed by the quality of service Brightspark Travel provides and I would never consider undertaking a trip of this magnitude with any company other than Brightspark!” - Cindy M. (Principal)

Why is Washington D.C. consistently our most popular tour destination? Because it’s more than a city: it’s a living classroom. Museums, monuments, political hotspots and educational workshops are a-plenty, but we wanted to highlight just a few of our can’t-miss Washington D.C. attractions.

Ford’s TheatreOn April 14, 1865, stage actor John Wilkes Booth put on the act that would land him in history books: the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Seated in the Presidential Box of Ford’s theatre, the influential leader was shot in the head with a Philadelphia Deringer pistol. As they follow the events of that fatal night via the theatre’s museum’s artifacts, students will experience the controversy surrounding the president’s morals and the legacy he left behind.

The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate ConceptionServing as the National Catholic Church, this seven-chapel Basilica ranks as the largest Roman Catholic Church in the United States. Since 1846, Americans dreamt of a D.C.-based cathedral designed to match those in Europe—and this splendid Byzantine-Romanesque basilica certainly fits the bill. Built between 1920 and 1961, it is filled with heroic-sized figures of saints, intricate mosaics, vast amounts of marble and a crypt church modeled after Early Christian Catacombs.

The Library of CongressOh say can you read? Bookworms and history buffs alike will go gaga over the 32 million books lining the shelves of this Beaux Arts style building. With North America’s largest collection of rare books, the library contains a draft of the Declaration of Independence, along with one of the few original Gutenberg Bibles. The library’s history begins in 1800, when the collection was located in the Capitol itself. While most of the original books were burnt in the fire of the War of 1812, the library evolved with generous donations from Thomas Jefferson and the construction of its current location in 1897.

The Supreme Court BuildingHoused in Corinthian-style building meant to mirror the “dignity and importance” of its inhabitants, the Supreme Court has been called a symbol of our republic’s faith. Introduce students to the judicial system with a 30 minute tour of the most influential court in the country. Learn about the Supreme Court’s judicial function as it strives to uphold “equal justice under law,” and discover the history of the building.

The Georgetown NeighborhoodCobblestone streets and colonial architecture come alive with contemporary hotspots, designer boutiques and gourmet dining. Established as a port town in 1751, Georgetown actually predates Washington D.C by 40 years. As if famous residents such as Thomas Jefferson and John F. Kennedy.

The National Air & Space MuseumWith eight million visitors every year, this two-location museum is the most visited in the United States. Home to over 60,000 objects ranging in size from the Saturn V Rockets to the very first microchips, the museum’s historic air and spacecraft collection is the largest in the world. Formed by an act of congress in 1946, the center also fosters some of the most innovative research in the industry. Highlights include the original Wright Flyer from 1903, the Spirit of St. Louis, the Apollo 11 Command Module and the first colored picture of Mars.
