Having completed all 7 qualifying rounds and the additional 7 final rounds, we salute the new Champions of Bright International Bridge Tournament, KRN Kutai. This team consists of Jeffrey Laoh as the Team Manager, and the 6 players: Jongki Tumbel, Mac Leonardo, Octa Wohon, Boy Roring, Sandri Supit, Rivans Polii. Looking into the Hall of Fame of this tournament which have been 17 years since 2004, it was the second gold medal for Octa Wohon after 2014. Additionally, Jongki Tumbel/Mac Leonardo were the gold medalists of National Open Pairs 2019 in Jakarta. Raewaya took the silver medals, and we are proud to have our third place from Chinese Taipei, YBT.

We also see no shortage of excitement in the Consolation round. Curve Research overcame the resistance of the favorite team Djarum Super in the final round and emerged as the winner. The second place went to DKI Jakarta, after a tremendous struggle squeezing TGBC Phoenix and the second runner up belongs to BridgeFriendsChina who defeated Union-C-S.

The award for the Open Pairs went to: Beni JI/Herry Herdian (Ganesha 88), Cliff Tangkuman/Novry Kaligis (Raewaya), Wang Yong/Li Xinrong (BridgeFriendsChina), and Denny Tirajoh/Frangky Umboh (Paniki/Raewaya). Congratulations!

It is also time to bid farewell to the 17th Bright International Bridge Competition 2020. We hope everyone enjoyed our 1st online event, and see you next year at Batam (expecting the COVID-19 pandemic to fade-away soon)!

Declarer drew all outstanding trumps and eventually claimed for all tricks and was accepted. Ooops, both defender did not realized that declarer still had [J loser, but anyway, it did not affect the final IMP conversion as 780 and 810 have the same 13 IMPs.

Declarer then called for spade and had it ruffed in hand with the {Q, crossed to table with {9 and would have been hoping for an onside }Q, but the contract was one off.

What went wrong? Having lost one spade trick, declarer could not afford to lose another trick so the delcarer needed to optimize his trump by ruffing one of the diamonds at dummy, followed with another spade ruff, drew the last trump and had the [A entry to cash the spade winner.
