International Biological Diversity Day Celebration in M. P.

Report Madhya Pradesh Biodiversity Board (MSBB) has celebrated the IBD on 22

nd

May 2016 with the support of National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) in

Noronha Academy of Administration & Management, (RCVP), Bhopal. The

theme for this year celebration was

“Mainstreaming Biodiversity;

Sustaining People and their

Livelihoods”. Lighting of traditional

lamp at the hands of the dignitaries

A conference was organized by

the board on the theme where members

of Biodiversity Management

Committees (BMCs) were invited to

participate in the state level

celebration. Other than BMC members,

Master trainers, Subject experts and

indigenous knowledge holders, NGO facilitators in constituting the BMCs in the state

were the main participants.

Chief Guest, Dr. Gourishankar Sejwar, Hon’ble Minister for Forest

Department, Madhya Pradesh, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Shri Narendra

Kumar and Dr. Animesh Shukla, Managing Director, M.P. State Minor

Forest Produce Federation, Bhopal were invited as Chairperson , Guest of Honour and

Special Guest respectively.

Inaugural session: The programme started with the lighting of traditional lamp

at the hands of the dignitaries thereafter, Dr. S. P. Rayal, Member Secretary,

MPSBB, welcomed the

guests, dignitaries and

participants and He

highlighted briefly on the

theme of IDB-2016 and

Chief Guest, Guest of

Honour and Special Guest

also discussed the

important Biodiversity area

in Madhya Pradesh.

Active participation by everybody

The Chief Guest Dr. Gourishankar Sejwar, Hon’ble Minister for Forest

Department, Madhya Pradesh spoke on Biodiversity conservation initiatives in

Madhya Pradesh and liked the same with Livelihood. The Guest of honour and

special guest also spoke on the conservation of Biodiversity and related

traditional ecological knowledge played a key role in supporting the livelihoods

of Forest. They appreciated the efforts of the M. P. Biodiversity Board in

implementing the provisions of Biological Diversity Act, 2002 in Madhya

Pradesh. The activities related to MPSBB have been highlighted in the

presentation given by Dr. S. P. Rayal, Member Secretary, MPSBB.

Best Biodiversity Garden and Photography Competition: Entries from 20

Districts of awarded for Best Biodiversity Garden. Photography Competition

was organized by the Board in state level. On the occasion of IDB, 2016 the

prizes were distributed to the participated who secured first and second, third

and 03 consolation positions in the competition by Chief Guest and Guest of

honour. Certificates of felicitation and prizes were given to all selected

Participant.

Best Master Trainer’s Award: In recognising the contributions of

individuals in the field of Biodiversity Conservation in Madhya Pradesh, 5

Master trainers were felicitated by

the board in the state level

celebration. Prizes were given to

those eminent individuals for their

outstanding contributions in the

field of biodiversity conservation.

Best BMC Award: 5 best

Biodiversity Management

committees were awarded for their

extra ordinary contribution to

conservation activities of

Biodiversity.

Felicitation to Indigenous Traditional Knowledge holders

Release of Book and Panchhi App: To create awareness and conservation

point of view a book a was published by the board on “Jaibvividhta

Digdrshika”. Beside Panchhi App was launched by board with collaboration

of Bhopal Bird (NGO). The Guest released the book and lunched Panchhi app

on this occasion.

Painting Competition based on the theme of this year’s biodiversity day came

up with variety of ideas presented in the canvas by the Narmada College Of

Fine Arts in Trilanga, at Ravindra Bhavan, Bhopal.

Drawing and quiz Competition: As part of the celebration of IDB, 2016,

Drawing and Quiz competitions on “Biodiversity of Madhya Pradesh were

organised by the board among class 5th

and 10th

students of different school of

Bhopal. On the occasion of IDB, 2016 the prizes were distributed to the

students.

Biodiversity Chariot: The Chief Guest Dr. Gourishankar Sejwar, Hon’ble

Minister for Forest Department, Madhya Pradesh flag off the Biodiversity

Chariot for district Hoshangabad to spread massage of Biodiversity

conservation in village’s level of district Hoshangabad.

Board Massage: After the brief felicitation programme the Board officers

addressed the gathering. They spoke a about Biodiversity issues, Challenge and

conservation practice. The officers also highlighted on the achievement of

working policies of Board.

Technical Session: In second half of technical session, Environment and

biodiversity Experts delivered talks on Medicinal plants, Organic forming,

seed bank and agro biodiversity of Madhya Pradesh. The vote of thanks for the

event was presented by officers of MPSBB. Entire program was well attended

and was widely covered by media.
