A community has existed here for more than 1,000 years and the many examples of fine architecture throughout the town reflect its prosperous past. Why not combine a shopping trip with a visit to the Blake Museum, the Arts Centre or just a stroll around this fine town. Bridgwater’s location at the foot of the Quantock Hills and on the edge of the Somerset Levels makes it an ideal location for exploring all the countryside nearby. Bridgwater is world famous for its illuminated Guy Fawkes Carnival which takes place each November and lights up the town with music, movement and colour – stay after the procession and experience the ‘squibbing Spectacular’ which stretches down through the High Street – more info visit www.bridgwatercarnival .org.uk. Another annual big event is Bridgwater Fair which takes place on the last Wednesday through to the Saturday in September at St Matthew’s Field in West Street.
