having to pay for these services, allowing us to provide additional comforts to our families with your valuable financial contribution.

$27,866 The amount you raised by

collecting pull tabs.

This year, let us send your holiday cards to family, friends or clients. Make a donation in honor of a loved one or adopt a

family in someone’s name and we’ll let them know,

sending warm wishes for the holidays.

Make sure Santa doesn’t forget Ronald McDonald House. You could have

party guests bring a present for our children

and families to your office or personal holiday party.

Our biggest need is for infant toys and gifts for teenagers and parents.

1,808 The number of gifts you provided to critically ill children, their siblings,

and their parents during the 2013 holiday season.

350 The number of gifts made

in 2013 during the holidays in honor or in memory of

someone.

One of our guest mothers, Aimee Webb, recently said, “You don’t notice the illness here.

You don’t see the sadness. When you come in this House, all you see is happiness.”

Aimee has been coming to our House since 2007 to help her daughter Faith. Faith is eight

years old and has had over 30 surgeries to help her kidneys function properly. Like so many

other children, Faith is happy when she’s in our House, despite her precarious health. You —

our donors and volunteers — are the ones to thank for this.

Our guest families have so many reasons to be sad, stressed and consumed by worries and

fears, but the smiles you help bring to their children’s faces and the respite you provide to

parents makes that go away. Before discovering our House, many families said they were

scared to come to Cincinnati — fearing the tests and treatments, needles and surgeries. But when families

know they are coming to our House, their children are excited about the trip, looking forward to the activities,

the play areas and to spending time with the other children who are just like them.

For many families, paying medical bills leaves little money for vacations. However, they happily report that

our House has become their favorite “vacation” spot, because they get to experience so many things they

never would have been able to without our House. Children get to pet alligators and turtles from the Newport

Aquarium and owls from the Cincinnati Zoo right here in our children’s theater. They get to go to Bengals games

and Reds games free of charge. They get costumes for Halloween and trick-or-treating down our hallways, with

more candy than they could ever eat. For Thanksgiving, there is a professionally catered holiday feast. And in

December, they even have the opportunity to board a Delta plane to travel to the “North Pole” to meet Santa

and his elves. Santa also never forgets the children in our House on Christmas Eve, and there are holiday parties,

portraits and many more events to celebrate.

You, our volunteers and donors, have made sure that what could have been a hopeless situation is now a time

of hope and happiness. From our board and staff, thank you for making a child’s day, every day. Thank you

for the priceless gift you give to our families when they need it most. I hope that your home will be filled with

happiness throughout the holidays and all year long, just as you have done for our “home away from home.”

What You Provided FAMILIES IN 2013“Molly had to be in the hospital over Christmas, and unfortunately she was not doing well. Needless to say, getting Christmas gifts was not on my priority list. But thanks to the House, Santa found us in Cincinnati, and to this day I still cry when I think of the unexpected generosity that was given to our family.”

“We have entered a world that we never knew existed, a world where you forgo vacations in order to get your child the best medical care, where you work to pay for the uncovered medication, where people travel thousands of miles to help their child. Our hearts have been touched by the reality of this world. Not only is the House a huge blessing to our finances, but it is a special treat for Ashley. She enjoys the game room, the meals, the DVDs, everything! As for mom and dad, we appreciate the sense of community and the support! You think of things that we didn’t even realize we needed until we got there. Thank you for thinking for us when we are too overwhelmed to think for ourselves.”

— Lori Lassen, mother of eight-year-old Ashley, who is receiving treatment for her damaged spinal cord

A Comfortable Place to SLEEP

“After giving everything I could to Ava, I didn’t have any energy left. I could barely lift the fork to my mouth to eat, much less drive to get food or prepare meals. It was unbelievable not having to think twice about anything and just being able to come to the House to eat and get in bed for a little sleep before heading back over to the hospital to be with her.”

What You Provided FAMILIES IN 2013“After living at the House for five months, I can honestly say that it offered us more than we could have ever expected. We got to stay together as a family, and our four-year-old son had so much fun with all the activities at the House that he hardly missed his life back home. The House has definitely been a refuge for our family during the hardest season of our lives.”

BEAUTIFULIn 2013, we started

a young professionals’ group, the Red Shoe

Crew (RSC). The RSC helps care for our critically ill

children and their families by volunteering, fundraising and being ambassadors for our House. With over 100 members, the RSC organizes activities for families, serves meals, assists with fundraising and events, and much more. In addition, the RSC provides opportunities for members to expand their personal and professional networks through social events.
